raygeorge Posted February 26, 2021 Report Posted February 26, 2021 Hello everyone. We hope you are all well. The carb on our Triumph Herald 1147cc really needs replacing. The rebuild with a Rimmer kit hasn't worked well enough. Just very tired - 300,000 miles worth at least of tired. Can anyone suggest a source of replacement ones. It's a Solex. Can a different make be fitted? Final thought - am I dreaming or does it look like one I recall from an early Ford Escort? I'm not really knwleadgeable but it is ringing a bell. Ray
Pete Lewis Posted February 26, 2021 Report Posted February 26, 2021 i always use the carbuertor exchange in leighton buzzard https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/carburetterexchange or Gower and lee in watford http://www.gowerlee.dircon.co.uk/ you pay for a rework not lots of bling Pete

Ray They were used on a number of cars of the period, with minor differences to mountings, brackets and other small parts - Ford Anglia was one, VW another, but you need to make sure you get the correct model. Unless you've a very early Herald it's probably the B30PSEI you need. I wonder how yours would benefit from a professional rebuilt from one of the two Pete mentions, or is it too worn to be refurbished?
Pete Lewis Posted February 26, 2021 Report Posted February 26, 2021 bring it up to sunny luton we can have a look ( at 2mtrs with a telescope ) ha there is little to go very wrong apart from worn body/throttle spindles there rest of any problems will be blocked air bleeds but should be easy to make a runner Pete
