Tipidave Posted March 4, 2021 Report Posted March 4, 2021 Following a test run recently I discover that my fuel cap has fallen off somewhere. I have retraced my steps but to no avail. Car is a 1966 Herald Right ho I thought... Iwill buy a replacement. Only to find none available that I can find. Does anyone know where I might be able to source one. Does anyone have one lying around in the bitsa box? Cheers David
Pete Lewis Posted March 4, 2021 Report Posted March 4, 2021 have a browse at the fuel cap co, https://www.petrolcaps.co.uk/1874/triumph-herald-vitesse-1960-to-1971-fuel-cap Pete
Colin Lindsay Posted March 4, 2021 Report Posted March 4, 2021 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/triumph-vitesse-herald-petrol-new-very-old-stock/143965112759?hash=item2184fd49b7:g:OPgAAOSwt39gKtaW NOS but it's got a dent and is pictured on a car.... If you want a lockable type this one is certainly NOS: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Triumph-Herald-Vitesse-Dolomite-lockable-fuel-cap-petrol-cap-gas-cap-NOS/143863273261?hash=item217eeb572d:g:IQUAAOSwTtVfv5Qz
Tipidave Posted March 4, 2021 Author Report Posted March 4, 2021 Hi copin thanks for that. I did see it but coming from Belgium with 30euros postage seemed a bit expensive for a cheapskate like me! That said if I have to I will. 👍👍👍
Colin Lindsay Posted March 4, 2021 Report Posted March 4, 2021 Wins International have them for £20, allegedly good / used. Mick Dolphin also has used / pitted versions for £4.50. Getting seriously peed off with my Net search, anything I find is from years back and nowhere near current.
Tipidave Posted March 4, 2021 Author Report Posted March 4, 2021 Thanks so much for the leads. I may get a used pitted one if I can and re chrome it 👍👍👍
Tipidave Posted March 5, 2021 Author Report Posted March 5, 2021 Pleased to say that a quick chat with Mick Dolphin has me awaiting delivery of a replacement cap... so thank everyone for the suggestions
johny Posted March 6, 2021 Report Posted March 6, 2021 Typical isnt it, now NOS appears on ebay and it looks like the seller has two! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-Genuine-Stanpart-fuel-cap-Triumph-Herald-Vitesse-Part-no-601761/184697139640?hash=item2b00ceb1b8%3Ag%3ArLsAAOSwWixgN8JB&LH_ItemCondition=1500|2500|3000|7000|10
Colin Lindsay Posted March 6, 2021 Report Posted March 6, 2021 They were originally held on by a small chain - you can see the little loop/bracket on the NOS cap - to stop them falling off and being lost.
johny Posted March 6, 2021 Report Posted March 6, 2021 Funny how one has a hole in the middle and the other not....
Chris A Posted March 6, 2021 Report Posted March 6, 2021 The one I have doesn't have a hole in the centre and the fixing for the chain is a 'tab' (which unfortunately has broken) rather than the 'eyelet'. Differences are probably down to the make.
johny Posted March 6, 2021 Report Posted March 6, 2021 I bet the concours guys have to have the right hole or no hole ones for their cars😁
martyn wright Posted March 8, 2021 Report Posted March 8, 2021 Hi! Theres a New Old Stock one on Ebay £20!
Tipidave Posted March 8, 2021 Author Report Posted March 8, 2021 Thanks for the point out. I have now ordered a replacement thank you👍👍👍
Colin Lindsay Posted March 20, 2021 Report Posted March 20, 2021 There are now FIVE selling on eBay... someone is watching this forum!
Tipidave Posted March 20, 2021 Author Report Posted March 20, 2021 Ha yes... I am now well catered for but I imagine they will only get more scarce as the years roll by. 👍
johny Posted March 20, 2021 Report Posted March 20, 2021 yes a lot were binned back in the day for lockable ones (guilty!) and now owners arent worried about petrol theft so want originality....
