68vitesse
Vitesse not been running right, terrible tickover, so had a good look today diaphragm hard and split and the hoses not to clever despite being the double wall expensive ones. The test drive went very well but led to chips mushy peas and beer for lunch. The colour of the plugs made me think air leak, just removing oil filler cap would have confirmed it. Regards Paul.
Iain T
The diaphragms are of questionable quality. I bought some in a Burlen service kit from Rimmers, the diaphragms were thick and very distorted. Contacted Burlen direct and they replaced them with nice thin flat ones. After a year one is still perfectly formed and the other has wrinkles?? They seem to work ok but why the difference? Iain

Iain T
You loose vacuum when you remove the rocker cap but why would that help? Chips, mushy peas and beer will certainly give you an air leak!
NonMember
1 minute ago, Iain T said: You loose vacuum when you remove the rocker cap but why would that help? If the valve is working correctly, opening the rocker cap just makes it close down to maintain manifold vacuum. If the diaphragm's split then it's not working, so opening the cap bleeds in enough air to either significantly raise the idle or weaken the mixture to the point where it stalls. At least in theory. I'm not sure how much difference it makes if the diaphragm's split to the point of not working because it means it's already leaking quite a lot of air in. Iain T
I'm a dumbo! It's the valve diaphragm not carb, sorry I must engage eyes with brain!

Dave Just that if you remove the oil filler cap and no change to idle, valve and or hoses probably leaking if idle changes valve and hoses probably ok, most important word is probably.
