The old ones had cardboard cones, the new are plastic which have a much better sound. Mine were JVC, these, I think. You have to get the wires into the door which means they're going to flex and break, eventually. Martin, the problem with Spit/GT6 door speakers is they will foul the window when it's wound down if they are too deep. I can tell you from personal experience how dispiriting it is to hear that THUNK as the window hits first time you wind it down. It won't wind any further, and then you put two and two together. I think the only place any speaker will fit - unless you want to chop a hole in the door inner skin - is the bottom rear corner. Take the door panel off and, with a straight edge across the inner skin, measure the distance to the wound down window. It's not much - only just over an inch I think. 30mm, something like that? You could add the thickness of the door trim panel, but remember to keep something for clearance. I did this recently and the ones I fitted say "Radiomobile" but there's no model number and I can't find the box, sorry! They're about 125mm diameter. However, I simply trotted down to my local friendly independent motor factors and they opened the glass case and I measured what they had. You won't get anything special in such a slim speaker, but with the top down and the wind rushing past, who cares! Hope this is some help. PETE I`ve found in the past that it`s not the best place for Speakers. My Mk3 Escort had them fitted there, and at full chat you could hardly hear Jimmy Young!. (other presenters are available). And just put it in the car when needed. Wish I had done that rather tha fitting an amp/speakers. Much more flexible, and great to use at home too. Mathew Posted April 11, 2021 Report Share Posted April 11, 2021 When i had a stereo in my spitfire i fitted speaker pods, front in the glove boxes and two large ones behind the seats. Worked fine even on the motorway. Not fitted to my pumaspit . Am thinking of recommission the tape deck radio in the 2500s, but only have one old tape my mum gave me a few years back but that could get some serious thread drift. Even with an old 8 track it should be possible to re-engineer with new tape. Not too sure about recording on it though. SpitFire6 Posted April 11, 2021 Report Share Posted April 11, 2021 Hi, As most car single DIN units are at best 4 X 14 watts RMS, an Amplifier is required. Add another amplifier in bridge mode to drive a single Bass speaker. By taking the low frequencies away from the standard speakers distortion will drop at high levels.
