Badwolf Posted April 5, 2021 Report Posted April 5, 2021 I have been asked to make a separate thread for my experiments using structural adhesive to bond body panels instead of welding. This should make searching on the adhesives theme easier. Modern adhesives have come a long way from alradite, which was the first one that I used, back in the 70s, although it, and others were around long before then. The latest is actually 'Thatcham Approved' for use on car bodyshells. I will enhance this thread as time goes on and also update it in tandem with my restoration thread. A lot of the information can be found here... https://forum.tssc.org.uk/topic/2623-intersting-clutch-master-cylinder-piston-mod-nose-to-tail-1972-spitfire-mkiv-restoration-upgrades/page/39/ .. but there are references from page 35 (or there abouts) through to about 43. The page numbers may change a little as I am building an index on the first post of this thread, which may throw out the page numbers, so please be patience and have a look around!! If you have any questions about what I have done please post them here. Acknowledgments to Pete Lewis for thinking that this subject and my experiments, is important enough for it's own thread. 2
RogerH Posted April 5, 2021 Report Posted April 5, 2021 Have a look here for a good selection of aircraft grade adhesives. A good number of Araldite's to choose from. https://www.lasaero.com/products/category/B02XV0WWL/ Don;t forget the surface preparation and keying. Roger 1
