Ziggy Posted April 7, 2021 Report Posted April 7, 2021 I am thinking of insulating under the bonnet on my TR6, but was wondering if there are any real benefits from doing this, has anyone done this already, and has it made a difference?
PeteH Posted April 7, 2021 Report Posted April 7, 2021 I don`t know about thermal insulation. But I had sound deadening material under the bonnet of several cars in the past. Can be efffective for noise supression. I have some "Noico" which is intended for the 13/60 at some point, including under the bonnet. Pete
DVD3500 Posted April 7, 2021 Report Posted April 7, 2021 Some people who switched to fiberglass hoods/bonnets had to cut louvres and holes in them because the metal hood/bonnet actually transferred heat better. So I would guess sound deadening might be a good idea but heat not so much..
ed.h Posted April 8, 2021 Report Posted April 8, 2021 It's mostly for looks, I think. I like it on the boot lid, too. Ed
dougbgt6 Posted April 8, 2021 Report Posted April 8, 2021 The underside of my bonnet is undersealed. What idiot did that?!! Doug
Badwolf Posted April 8, 2021 Report Posted April 8, 2021 Been there, done that, spent last summer or was it the summer before (lost track) with the paint stripper, thinners etc getting rid!!!
PeteH Posted April 8, 2021 Report Posted April 8, 2021 I spent several days, removing the "underseal" on the inner bonnet, Hot air Gun and a set of sharp scrapers. Had it to remove from the Wheel arches before I could repair them too. Pete
dougbgt6 Posted April 8, 2021 Report Posted April 8, 2021 Thanks Guys. That fills me full of............... good vibs..................... Doug
Badwolf Posted April 11, 2021 Report Posted April 11, 2021 Finally tracked this down.. .. it was taken at a show in Manchester a couple of years ago. I would have run the Silentcoat under the angle bar to aid vibration reduction Silentcoat was also put on the front bulkhead.. I have been a bit busy and have only just sorted these out from the files. Hope that they are useful to someone.
