we do a site visit on thursday 5th   to iron out any unkown requirements ( thats a 75mile round trip)

but we are on track to get some sunshine and a great day out meeting all the  faces  to put with the names

due to unknown covid reqiurement we dont feel safe at doing our usual refreshments , and the raffle is debateable too

this drops   our income dramtically  ( donations for food and raflle boosts our funding ) and trophies would be a step too far  , we may just offer a certificate for the best 3 cars . its all in the wash as they say

so you are all aware IWM charge us £15 we add a £1 to cover our costs on the day so we dont make much to offer much

but its a good day out and  a bit cheaper than normal entry prices

friends of Duxford are allowed in for just the £1    so its good vakue for them

we are hoping to do more but just now its a bit of unknown

we will know more after the 5th

but raffles have to be a not a raffle raffle

iwm dont want you to make any moonlighting from their establisments

we have had a 'not a raffle'   raffle in the past as its only to our members  so its a closed shop

we can call it a prize giving ????

rest assured if ther is a way to make members chuckle and we make a few bob   ...we are on it

right here is an update

we will be offering some light refreshents in the gazebo's  and  just for Doug the Not a Raffle raffle will be going ahead

think we call it a prize giving  this is all on the QT as the rules say NO but as we have been doing this for 28 years they turn a

blind eye to our socialising efforts

so its Still a picnic but we have the gazebo's open for light refreshments and a good social  natter

you may be asked to wear a mask in enclosed spaces and some displays  (these are IWM rules)

we will keep the gazebo's open so pleanty of freash air from the windy blow across the airfield

this is good news .     normal is getting.....more normal,

we dont have to space cars or control any covid antics  . do what you are happy with we will do our best

so Tea Coffee and a bun fight is back on we wont be preparing our usual rolls etc  but keep it simple rules apply

Regards

Pete and team

we thought of steak and chips on offer but ...................... it will be more like sticky cakes and  hot sausage rolls and keep it easy and less handling with hot

tea and coffee available

note      soft drinks  are DIY

this is not what we expected but we will do some social catering  and beverages     its  a good  way to getto know the faces

the Not a raffle Raffle will be some decent stuff and the girls will press gang you on arrival ....there is no escape ( have you met the girls )

Well are we talking a couple of boxes out of my spitfire? Or the 2500s boot full 🤪

I remember back it was a complete no no to have bits for sale.

So who wants anything brought along?

last year we were restricted and had to be covid carefuful  etc

a box in the spitty sounds reasonable as traders get charged silly money by IWM

they dont like anyone making money on their sites   only themselves

hence it cant be a free for all with trailer loads we would get banned

but a little discrete exchanges for moonlight is workable

we will be offering adice if this gets silly enough to make us unpopular on the site

so  PC49 will be on the lookout for anyone taking the mickey

small friendly sales please any bonnets wings or engines etc will be refused

CORONAVIRUS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

follow this link for any questions about how IWM run thier covid awarness on  site these answers are aimed at all the sites and not Duxford specific

https://www.iwm.org.uk/coronavirus-faqs

we will be doing everything required to maintain safety of the bug  transmission but IWM run the rules on site

One of our local members was renowned for putting sausage rolls wrapped in tinfoil on the exhaust manifold of his GT6, so that when we stopped for a break they were always hot.

The last time I did that, it was a thundering great Marine Engine!. And punch a hole in a tin of beans, Half an hour and 5am Breakfast!.

My brother put kippers on my exhaust at my last wedding, or maybe the one before? Doug

Tried the exhaust manifold thing with toast wrapped in tin foil. Hot but very very soggy. Too much butter that is. Should have buttered them after the exhaust thing not before. Never tried it with sausage rolls. Did hear a tale years ago about someone who took his car into the garage because of the dreadful smell. The mechanic asked him if he was recently married... yes, you've got it..DFS.....Douglas Fish Syndrome
