I'm worried about parts availability and there doesn't seem to be the sort of club support support that i love! I'd love to hear your thoughts! As for buying it, sorry no idea, but I would have thought that a traditional VW camper would have been more in your sights. No problem with help and club support there, I'm sure. With real "sheds" making silly money and costing 10`s on thousands to bring up to scratch. As for buying old Campervans (Generally). The base vehicle has to be sound, capable of an MOT, and no Bodywork "advisories". I know from bitter experience they can easily become a "Black Hole Moneypit". It's an age thing 'cause I've never actually set foot in one. Had plenty of Toyota cars. Very good they have been, on the whole, when all the dealer overlooked faults were sorted. Pete Lewis Posted April 29, 2021 Report Share Posted April 29, 2021 no idea of values what if you put the reg in we buy any car ??? does it have any sort of kitchenette ?? seems an odd colour , and as with the vw post much of the era are rust buckets ....unless its a Triumph Hmmm the only experience i have of VW was back in the late 60s had to do a comparison audit on VW van it was full of defects , never understood the liking but my blood has Commer in it ha !! It's had some welding done over the years, so i guess that'll be an on going thing. The price seems about right to me. The engine was used in quite a few Toyota's, but i think parts are still tricky. You're more likely to find something that someone else has messed with and that will annoy you for years... My brother-in-law bought a Fiat-based camper three months ago; it's still not on the road. Wheelarches, sills, floors, all rotten, replaced the gearbox and when he was due to go off in it last weekend he found both brake calipers had seized up and in freeing them a brake pipe sheared. He reckons he's put too much into it to sell it now... I was offered one earlier in the week based on - wait for it - a 1953 Bedford. I knew there had to be a catch... More recent Transits have issues with towing weights and payloads, they have been reduced to help lower the emissions. So you have to get the Iveco versions.
