Tickover problem Spitfire 1500

Hi all

Any ideas? I can’t seem to get the tick over down low enough on the twin HS4’s.

I’ve set everything up really nicely - timing correct, mixture spot on but tickover is a minimum of 1200 rpm.

Throttle screws are right out and there’s no play in the spindle etc. Everything’s been cleaned and oiled, dampers topped up...

Car is running really well but bit of a nuisance when idling.

650 to 800 would be nice , are you sure its that high? ie not taco wrong. Sorry if that sounds wrong. Balance? Can you not close the spindles ? Air leak after the carbs?

Double-check the butterflys are actually closing fully and properly.  If they aren't you'll effectivly be at part throttle even with your foot off the gas.

Give the whole carb/inlet manifold/breather pipework (but NOT into the carb mouths) a spray with Easystart.  Nothing should happen but if you hear the RPM change you've got an air leak there somewhere.

Reminds me of my single CD150 on the 13/60. When I finally stripped the carb..... I found one butterfly screw missing !!! No idea how the P.O. had lost that! still never found it. 

This, naturally, caused high revs at tickover,..... search for an air leak.

is the rocker cover letting air in or the filler cap is a poor fit 

plug the breathers tubes if that cures the idle then you know where to look
