Pete Lewis
now you see why moderns have large claws and springy things holding the pads  the early calipers of the 60s and 70s were much simpler and have very little to hold the pad and FWD dont have hub endfloats to annoy the pads Pete
cliff.b
Hmm, removed the pads on o/s and the new caliper that I bought in April appears to have a seized piston 😡

That's why I looked at this side first. I managed to free up the piston by repeatedly applying significant pedal pressure then forcing piston back again with a spreader. After doing this several times it now seems to be moving. Think a test drive is needed to see if the squeak is still there.

That will be the 2nd time I have had to do so. Same supplier as my failed rear shoe adjuster

Tony. It's more than a shame but it looks like I have got it working ok. Will have to keep an eye on it though. I've got enough things to fix without re-fixing the stuff I thought I had already fixed 🤔

cliff.b
At long last the noise that I first complained about on this thread appears to have gone. I found that the long, rear, diff retaining bolt was loose and since tightening it the noise has disappeared. Only thing is, I'm not sure why that was causing it 🤔
