Black Cat
Hi, I have a 1977 Triumph Spitfire which I'm rebuilding, all the wiring is now back in the car but I do have a couple of issues, one is with the cigarette lighter, when the ignition is switch off the cigarette lighter light stay on, is this correct or do I have a wiring issue? Many thanks
Pimp my Vit
This was a feature of 1960s cars, personally I would prefer for it to be switched via the key...
Wagger
If possble, just disconnect the light. It is nice to have a live socket when all else is switched off. Roundabouts and swings really. I have left the ignition 'ON' with cars that only power it when on, and left something 'On' in the socket when I should not have done where it is always live. Both result in a flat battery when you least expect it.
chrishawley
Yup, the cigarette lighter should have a permanent (fused, unswitched) live. The illumination light for the CL is on the same circuit as the instrument illumination lights so is fused and switched (via the master light switch and only comes on when the sidelights are on). So having the CL illumination always on is not right. Could be that the two wires have been transposed.
