The Haynes manual for the Spitfire (chapter 11 item 9 in respect of the front suspension) notes "if the stub axle must be separated from the carrier, a press will be required" and then "refitting is a reversal of removal". Does this mean that the stub axle has to be pressed into the stub axle carrier or will the tightening of the nut be adequate. I shall be using a new stub axle carrier (yes, it did break) and a new stub axle (no, it won't press out).
