  1. So at the end of the season in my mk3 rotoflex gt6 I had the wheel bearings changed as I had been having a rumble from the back and vibration at anything over 40 mph.

The noise suddenly got a lot worse and there was a lot of play in the rear wheel. Wheel bearings were shot and at the same time I had the rear overhauled with polybushes and CV joint conversion. The good news is that the handling is transformed and the car feels much more together than before.

The bad news is that the vibration and noise is still there. It's not a whining but a rumble noise and a pretty serious vibration, worse on the over run. I couldn't feel much play in the propshaft UJs.

Is this likely to be the diff or the propshaft UJs. Ive read the canley piece and that infers it's more likley to be the UJs.

    Help please!!!

  2. So my GT6 has now been converted to lovely new CV joint driveshafts and polybushes in the suspension along with Gax adjustable dampers.

I can't wait until the spring and the salt goes so I can try it out to see if it feels different.

However, That means I have a whole set of old driveshafts along with rotoflex donuts still attached to them.

Are they worth anything if I put them on ebay? Should I keep them so that if someone wanted to put the car back to 100% original they could (although God knows why they would want to undo probably the best change you could do to a gt6)??

  3. The radiator on my GT6 is leaking where the car is in storage.

Just after some views on the best options in terms of outcome against value for money.

    I could:

    1) Try to get the radiator recored. not sure of cost.

    2) buy a reconditioned or new radiator from the usual trumph parts people. I think they are around 200 - 250 pounds.

    3) Get an aluminium radiator. Radtec sell one for 500 quid.

I've never had cooling problems with my gt6 but I know they are a bit marginal. Would an aluminium radiator be worth the extra??

    thanks

  4. For about the first time ever i've paid for someone else to do the work on my 'hobby' car GT6. I'm still finishing building a Dax Rush and it has been a big step paying someone else to do the work. However, where i'm storing the GT6 over winter they are working on lots of classics and the mechanic is a real enthusiast.

So i'm really excited and can't wait for the spring and the salt to go.

I ordered a full polybush kit from the club and a CV kit to replace the donuts and new wheel bearings. Along with new gaz adjustable dampers i'm hoping that I notice the difference. I can't help but feel that CV joints are going to make it feel different to the rubber donuts and that polybushs and new adjustable dampers will make it feel tauter??

Roll on spring I can't wait.

  5. I'm planning potential upgrades for the winter. I've already commissioned the rotoflexes to be replaced by the Jigsaw CV joint driveshaft kit.

I'm building a Dax Rush in the garage (and have been for 4 years!) so i'm having to have the work done for me.

The engine has done 96k and I would like to have a rebuild and take the opportunity to have a TR5 camshaft fitted and some gentle  headwork just to spice things up a little bit.

I've been speaking to Cameron Gilmour services, and they seem happy to show pictures of their engine work on facebook (if that means anything really).

Also there is the option of Jigsaw.

Does anyone have any experience of either those company's work or any other suggestions / experiences??

    Any input gratefully received.

  6. I've had a rumble from the rear of my rotoflex gt6 for a while now.

Yesterday this got much worse from the moment I drove the car with a rumbling, groaning noise.

There has been no 'howling' from the diff.

At first I thought it was the rotoflex's but they look alright. One rear wheel feels like it has play and that was with the car on the ground and I haven't jacked the car up.

So pointing to the wheel bearings?

But in my previous experience wheel bearings have tended to make a gentle whirring noise.

Is this a common sympton of gt6 rear wheel bearings? would it be a good opportunity to move to CV joints at the same time??

  7. This means it's the wrong spring for your car. You shouldn't have to cut or alter a correct one. If the large looped eye on each end is just that - a  large looped eye - then it's wrong; the correct spring with the smaller curved eye would have fitted first time and been nowhere near the rear brake cylinders. If I'm correct in remembering, the Spitfire family will take the larger eye but my GT6 and possibly your Vitesse too requires the smaller version. The photo shows a Spitfire one I had on my car for a while until I realised it was bending the rear cylinders downwards, and so replaced it with a NOS version from Chic Doig, which came nowhere near the brakes.

    Colin,

The NOS version looks to be a thinner grade than the older rusty spring in the photo. Would that be a problem??

  8. There's a fair amount of information about tuning Triumph engines out there. So I don't think it's as grey as all that.

There's a few good resources on tuning the spitfire engine on the internet and people have raced the 6 cylinder for ages.

  9. My GT6 is currently being stored by a classic car storage company as i'm building a Dax Rush in the garage and don't have enough space. Hopefully I will have finished the Rush before the end of the year.

Would it do the GT6 any harm to store it outside with one of those breathable covers on it? It's nice to know it's inside in the dry.

If I kept it under a cover with those 'dehumidifying' bags of crystals. Would that be much worse for rust and dampness??
