  1. Thanks again Johny, Dan & Colin

Radiator was new last year from Rimmers. It has a Revotec electric fan, fitted by Willow Triumphs, but I have since discovered a split in the fuel line connecting both carbs, which I have replaced with ethanol free fuel pipe from the club.

Last year, the heater valve was replaced see page 68 of the courier.

Having read your comments, I've gone off the idea of the Golf radiator?

  2. Thank you Clive and Colin for your advise and humour!

I do a fare amount of maintenance when needed on my car but unfortunately I am not proficient to carry out such work.

Shame. I'll have to find some one who is capable and willing cos I do like the idea. Mine overheated last year during the hot temperatures - above 30 c

    Thanks again

    Maria

  3. Hello, It's me again

After several unsuccessful attempts at starting my GT6, I decided to have a look at the ignition. The distributor cap central carbon electrode was worn, so I pulled out a spare original Lucas DDB702 that I purchased from Mick Dolphin years ago. This fitted bang on, but I also tried another spare distributor cap Intermotor 4482 which wouldn't 'lock in', so my first question is what does this fit as it says Triumph GT6 1966-74?

My second question is what rotor arm is the correct one to use. Like the Intermotor distributor cap, I have several Intermotor distributor arms that I have purchased from car boot sales - see photos. I also have 2 Unipart GRA110 in their original packaging, are these the correct one's?

I need to order some spares so I want to know what is make of my distributor and what are the correct nos. to use?

    😀Thanks again

    Maria

  4. Thank's all for your input. After the successful fitting of the new radiator valve(see forum), I still had an overheating problem, so the next step was to change the 84oC thermostat which appeared to be a bit slow to operate in a jug of boing water to a 74oC. Having read Andy Cook's article, I decided to be overcautious and go for the radiator cap. I think I shall stick with my 7lber . If it ain't broke, don't fix it🙂

  5. Thanks Pete and Colin for your feedback!

The radiator was from Rimmers (am I allowed to mention them?), no, they are good and the7lber fits well.

I might just put it down to school girl error. Should have purchased a MkIII  radiator to match the engine, but presumed (I hate that word) they were the same! Should have known better!

T-shirt from the club, years ago!

  6. Dear all

I have a MKII with an MKIII engine. The radiator had a 7lb radiator cap and having read Andy Cook's article 'keep your cool', I decided to purchase a 13lb from the Club. The lugs on the new cap are longer and the new cap does not fit. Is it just a case of  levering the lugs so they fit, or will I damage anything?

    Thank for any input!

  7. Well,

Tony, my husband, hack sawed down to the threads. He's got more patience than me! After four pieces had been removed, using my tweezers and my vacuum cleaner, which had to be emptied, we were happy that there was no more crud in the manifold. He then used PTFE tape and wound the new heater valve in. Job done!

    Job well done! (1).jpg

  8. I need some advice as the heater valve on my GT6 MKII has 'snapped off' into the manifold.  Any advice please would be helpful. What size spanner do I need for the banjo bolt.

    Many thanks

  9. Hi All

My GT6 MKII with a MKIII engine misfired on the motorway last week, hot day and had to be towed off. At the same time, I noticed that my radiator had sprung a leak at the header tank. I have bought a new coil, plugs, cap, rotor arm & leads and already fitted a new radiator. I am due to fit the ignition stuff this weekend. In addition, my car has electronic ignition

However, I have just read 'Cookies'  comments about electric fans and mine has a revotec. I had this fitted as the temperature was getting too close for comfort a while ago on a hot journey. Cookie - are you against all electric fans?

Any ideas would be great as I'm due to travel down to Lemans in July and this would be a holiday of a lifetime for me in EBY 876J

    Many thanks

    Maria

  10. Thanks for your reply Martin

I think Portsmouth will be a bit of a trek so I was hoping for someone to reply from he orthern regions (coming down country) or a group  that we could meet half way down to Dover. Failing that Hull/ Zeebrugge may be worth considering

I will take what you have said on board and keep it in mind though

    Maria
