  1. hola, I've checked the clips and they are deep enough to fit up the door and weather seal. the doors are original with no work done to them. the only thing I've noticed is the lip on the door is bent over quite far - I.e instead of down towards the floor it goes about halfway back on itself. is this normal??
  2. well, I tried and failed miserably! these little clips seem to want to cause an awful lot of damage! at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot is it not possible just to silicone the weatherstrips in place? LN
  3. thankyou both, hold tight, I'm attempting today...
  4. Hi, I'm now getting round to refitting the weather strips on the doors of my spitfire but I'm having a nightmare with it. I get that i should be using a special tool or homemade replacement but even with that the little clips don't seem to want to come up and over the rubber and door lip to make the strip sit nicely. Any advice would be great! Thanks, LN
  5. Ok cool, thanks. Nice set up too!
  6. When you say pipe bender, I have a kit that has a set of spring shaped pipe benders. Is this the sort of thing you use?
  7. What have you used instead of the Airbus as well?
  8. Wow! That's very neat! How did you get the pipes to bend so nicely and follow the bulkhead. Mine always seem to want to kink.
  9. Hola! Getting onto the brake fitting on my mkiv spitfire resto now. I've fitted the pipe kit and it's all plumbed in ok, but it looks a bit... messy? Does the route of the pipework matter much or can I change it to my liking?
  10. It was vinyl at some point but that's beyond saving. The frame doesn't look too bad though so I'm gonna try and refurb that.
  11. Yeah I'm happy with that now. I just wanted to check how it fitted so I didn't mess unnecessarily. Do the frames come apart easily for repainting?
  12. Is it me or is that a bit of an odd design?
  13. I know this might seem stupid but I can't work out how the hood is supposed to sit with the windows all the way up on my spitfire. I would ve thought the roof sits outside the windows but with the windows up this doesn't look like it will work. I'll hasten to add this is a resto and it'll be the first time it's had a roof for many years... Just want an idea how it works. Ln
  14. Good news! She runs again! I have not the faintest idea why but after replacing most of the igbition wiring i suspect a poor connection or break. Thanks to everyones help.
  15. Ok I'll check the wiring tomorrow. The solenoid does have two terminals though - one for ignition the other for coil. As for the mounting that's where it's always been. The coil came like that - feels like it's got a plastic coating on it. What's a sure fire way to earth it?
  16. Another thought, what wires at the ignition switch could get mixed up to cause the symptoms? Or what about a damaged wire or something like that?
  17. Sorry yes, there is a little earth wire that goes from inside the dist, over the edge and connects to the outside. I've had it off and cleaned it so it should be fine. Re the white / pink and white / red wires, what would be the result if they were mixed up? LN
  18. Pictures are now in my gallery and voltage is as follows: Ignition Position ii iii coil +ve 12 12 coil -ve 3 3 coil HT 12 12 st sol ignition wire 0 12 st sol from coil 12 12 st sol top nut 12 12 st sol bottom nut 0 12 This is the same with a 6v and a 12v coil. LN
