  1. The rectangular plate that fits onto the front of the H-frame.
  2. Pete thanks ill have a look at that, I've got a plastic tunnel cover coming which ill make the trap door in and some silent coat to line it with. can you explain exactly where the washer goes? leon
  3. So an update, I've drilled and re-threaded all four of the holes cleared all the rust away, cleaned it up and now i just need to patch weld the two floor plates in but i thought id do a quick test fit of the standard bolts all fitting nicely. now i just need to clean up and possibly re-trim the radio bracket.
  4. Hi, does anyone have or know of somewhere the radio mounting plates are still available i want to fit an autosound classic car stereo which looks very authentic but comes with DAB and all the other modern functions of a car stereo! thanks Leon
  5. i found little reference to them either colin, the picture i attached below is from a mkIV chassis half way through rebuild and you can see the mounting blocks either side of the gearbox mounts on the chassis rail. for now im just going to retap but in the future when i take the body tub off i think ill cut these mounts away and weld in some newly machined ones to the exact specification. The floor panel edge has no threads they should just be holes to access the block below.
  6. hag did you go for the recon unit with new crown and pinion? leon
  7. Derek, Thanks for pointing that out i hadn't even noticed! just blends in with all the brown, i shall investigate this afternoon. Leon
  8. Has anyone used Wins international from East Grinstead for spare parts? they sell recon diffs with crown and pinion replaced for £495 which is considerably cheaper than Rimmers
  9. having looked at the alternator it seems to be at max travel, i've got almost an inch of travel each way on the belt so thats not right. By the looks of it the PO replaced the alternator and fitted a new belt so probably just the wrong size, ill just purchase one a touch shorter. next job is try and find some bigger circlips to go in my U/J's any tips??
  10. Update on the tractor, i adjusted the rockers to the correct gaps and now it doesn't sound too bad, still a bit of belt slap i think though so might need to replace or tighten the alternator belt what do you think? IMG_3432.MOV
  11. Doug thanks very much i think ill have a go at it tomorrow leon
  12. it sounds tractory! thats first list on the job of engine servicing just waiting on my workshop mauals to arrive in the post so i do the job correctly.
  13. any ideas anyone, i like to think it might just be the tappets. I've only just bought this spit so working my way through its issues! IMG_3429.MOV
  14. i was thinking of using the V-coil thread repair kit that the club shop sells, also available on amazon so i could use the original chrome bolts. i want to keep the car as original as possible and i'll forget that I've changed the size some time in the future! has anyone any experience with the thread repair kit the reviews on amazon are very good. Leon
  15. in my efforts to re-invigorate my gear selector and repair the overdrive on my spit mkIV i have discovered what can only be described as a bodge job by one of the PO. a picture paints a thousand words so please see below. What i found was plasterboard self tapping wall plugs badly jammed into the chassis rail, one of the original bolts sheared off still in the chassis and the body tub/floor section which covers the chassis rail rotting away. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? a temporary fix will do to stop the rot and give the required structural support to the radio/dash support frame. i was thinking i would drill out the mess and get a thread repair tool in there while treating the area to stop any further rot. then cut and weld patches to replace the rotting floor sections. I will at some point in the future remove the body tub and restore both areas back to factory but that's a long way off for now.
  16. sorry i should have been more clear in my original post, i know the exact part i need and have found them on all the standard parts dealers, what i was asking about is product descriptions on the club shop in general lacking, for example as you can see below. With no part number attached, is this a gearbox tunnel or is it a leather cover which goes over a tunnel? its more about the general online shopping experience, i can happily ring the shop and clear up any confusion but if this needs to be done every time i want something from the shop or new visitors to the shop could be turned away by it. P.S. I come in piece but am very confused amateur!
  17. Why is there no product descriptions on the majority of parts for sale. i'm having a very hard time trying to figure out what i'm trying to buy!? for reference i'm looking for a plastic gearbox tunnel cover to replace the naff cardboard one in my spit mkIV but i'm sure ill try and purchase more stuff as time goes on and hit the same headaches.
  18. Perfect, he had exactly what i needed! i think ill be using him more often
  19. Does anybody know where i can find the reverse gear stop screw for a mkIV 3 rail spitfire? I'm in the middle of overhauling my selector and its the one piece that isn't available from Moss, Rimmers or Canley classics
  20. i imagine the practical classics book will cover all the same details, I'm on the hunt for a spitfire to restore and while i wait for the right one to rear its head i thought id get ahead and read through any relevant material!
  21. looks like they dont make these any more and there obviously sought after. If anyone has a copy i could borrow or buy i would much appreciate it. email me on leon.halliwell@gmail.com
