  1. Thanks Pete My mechanic understands that and will have a play Thanks again Paul
  2. Thanks Dave Done that so I don't think that is the problem Paul Thanks Pete My mechanic doesn't understand the bit" the cam lock stuck in strikers hook shape" Can you explain further please Paul
  3. I have got most of my issues sorted apart from my passenger door. It is now beautifully aligned with good panel gaps. However, I am having problems opening the door. It will only open if I press the button and also press the door in slightly when it clicks and then opens. Without pressing the door in the button goes in but does not open. Anybody had this problem. Any suggestions welcome. I am mindful that in an emergency, access could be difficult. Paul
  4. The Lotus represented a watershed for me. I had then established the principle of dual cars. My firm , fortunately, provided me with a BMW 7 series which magnificently exceeded my family requirements but allowed me a bit exotica on the side. I had Jaguars, Ferraris, Maserati, and even a Gordon Keeble but I have now scratched one of my last itches and bought a Vitesse convertible. It passes the acid test. I look at it in the garage and grin. Roll on the summer when I can get it out and pose! Paul
  5. Back in 1977 I bought a new Lotus Elite (Wedge) and told my wife that as it had two seats in the rear it was a family car. In practice that would only work if you cut the kids legs off! I had to go out and buy a Citroen CX saloon to cover the situation but I kept the Lotus!! Paul
  6. I have the same problem being 6ft 4ins . The limiting factor is the B post. I have no requirement for the rear seating and did not wish to change the seats for a narrower set. I achieved maximum length by first fitting the rubber blocks to raise the seats an alter the rake. I then had new mounting bracket made to achieve maximum travel and I can now manage. I also had the clutch pedal modified to move it over a bit to the left. This meant I could no longer press all three pedals together! Paul
  7. Hi All I have just acquired a 1966 Vitesse MK1 which has a nice 1966 original number ( I think) JFS 92D. I also have another plate on retention 1980 FN and am not sure whether to transfer it onto the Vitesse. My gut instinct is to stick to the original as cars of this age have an interesting numbers already particularly on black and white plates. I would however welcome the thoughts of others. Paul
  8. This is where I got the rails. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-HERALD-VITESSE-CONVERTIBLE-SUN-VISOR-VISORS-BRACKET-BRACKETS-PAIR/351164426403?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 I have already ordered the mirror at £20 which looked alright to me! We live and we learn! This was the one on Ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-HERALD-1200-12-50-13-60-JEMCA-INTERIOR-MIRROR-NEW-OLD-STOCK-ORIGINAL/263951472895?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2763.l2649 I am away at the moment but I will get my man cracking next week. He needs to fit new scuttle panels I have bought, recondition the gear linkage with the Canley kit, and move the clutch pedal over a bit to make room for my size 12s. Has anyone fitted foot rest next to the clutch pedal I think this might help me? Paul
  9. I have found a set of rails on Ebay for the sun visors Mick couldn't supply complete mirror or mirror only. I found one at http://www.hipwellarden.co.uk/jemca-accessories/4594004008 £20. There was a mirror on Ebay for £49 but the seller did not reply to offers or enquiries. Thanks to everyone for their replies and help Paul
  10. Having had another look I am sure the rails and mirror fitting will clean up but the mirror glass has had it! Where would I get a replacement glass please. Paul
  11. My Vitesse has good sun visors but the rails on which they sit are tatty. They are painted light cream on the outer side and sort of corroded in the middle part where they go into the mirror. The mirror mounting is also tatty and the mirror has oxidised in parts. Cannot see any replacements in the parts catalogues but I may be looking in the wrong place! Any suggestions as to where I may find replacements Paul
  12. Thanks to everybody for their help. I have ordered the Canley kit and armed with all your suggestions and useful info I shall let my pal loose on it. He is highly experienced having worked professionally on Astons Jensen Maserati Lotus et al. He can mend things rather than buy new parts and has looked after my cars for over 20 years. What people like me will do when these people are no longer available I do not know. We don't have mechanics now we have "technicians" who just plug in to the computer and buy a new unit at £500+ It will take a few weeks to sort my Vitesse but I will post pictures when done Paul
  13. I can see other suppliers https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-GEAR-CHANGE-RE-BUSH-KIT-519770-/262968395940 Which is TRGB and https://www.sportscarsupplies.com/gear-lever-rebush-kit-triumph-spitfire-herald-gt6-vitesse-519770-809-p.asp Any suggestions as to which I should chose? I am not a spanner man myself but I have a highly skilled pal who will fit it. On the cutch, is it possible to lighten the spring Thanks Paul
  14. Thanks to everybody for help with my seat position I have now got it back as far as it will go but it is still a bit tight. The pedals are also a bit close together. Is it possible to move the clutch pedal an inch or so to the left. I think my size 12s are part of the problem but the pedal is extremely stiff and takes a bit of pressing. My only other problem is the gear change which has a very sloppy movement with no spring loading and no apparent default position. Feels like a replacement solution All suggestions gratefully received. Paul
