  1. Hi Scrapman, I hadn't considered that, a good point 👍 Jon B
  2. Roger that, all advice humbly absorbed and understood, with thanks. This project was acquired with the engine reportedly rebored and fully refurbed but has not been run since completed. I have a box of old parts, bearings, cylinders and valves which supports this, but I thought it would be prudent to check a few things over to verify all is well before reassembling all its life support components, and trying to bark it off. I'm not completely green but learning as I go. Can anyone comment on any common errors made when rebuilding a Triumph I6, which I should check for before running it? The engine was supplied on its side on a pallet, with no spark plugs installed, and no pool of oil! As such, I'm assuming it is dry apart from assembly oil and do not know how long it was sitting like this before I acquired the project. I'm a bit concerned about surface rust and / or particle inclusion... I was planning to check the following before trying to run for the first time: Boroscope into cylinders to check for any rust on walls or piston Confirm engine turns over by hand Check run-out of crank Remove sump and inspect components for rust. Remove rocker cover and check tappet gaps All being well, add seals and oil, fuel and air and spin it up? I'll mount it back in the chassis first of course... TCD
  3. Many thanks for all your quick replies and advice. I’ll look into getting a new plate made up. The V5C still says 2000cc of course. If I update the DVLA record to reflect its current capacity, is that regarded as a modification or an acceptable alternative, seeing as it’s period and virtually the same engine with a longer stroke? I appreciate moving to the 2.5 Triumph I6 has been a common switch, but was not an option when new. What’s the general TSSC community stance on the engine switch, acceptable and still a GT6, or more a question of purism? Cheers TCD
  4. Hi, I am at the beginning of a GT6 MK2 restoration journey, fuelled mainly by enthusiasm. The vehicle has a 2.5L I6 and gearbox, which I think came from a TR6 many years ago. The engine number has been lost whenever the block was decked and the commission plate is also missing from the bulk head. Whilst this is largely academic with respect to my motivation to restore, own and drive this old girl, I was wondering if I would ultimately have problems in the future regarding historic validation. The V5C lists a different engine number (consistent with a stock 2L I6) and I do not know if the chassis number is correct. The chassis has already been rebuilt and painted. However, is it possible that there is a number stamped on it somewhere, or was everything only detailed on the commission plate? Many thanks for any help and advice. Best regards, TCD
