  1. Hi Chris, It looks like I was given a 1971 Herald column.. I hope to get the correct one on Monday. Thanks for your thoughts.
  2. Thanks. I deal with the bars as necessary. It looks like I'll have to drill a new hole in the shroud unless anyone has a better idea.
  3. Having got the bush into the shroud I noticed that the steering lock slot in the upper column doesn't marry up to the hole in the shroud. If I marry it up the column doesn't stick far enough out of the top of the shroud to engage with the steering wheel. Will this be a problem? Also, there are two linked parallel bars running lengthways along the shroud to a bracket near the pedals and a bracket under the dashboard. It doesn't feature in the Haynes diagram of the steering assembly and I wondered if it is essential as it's proving impossible to reattach to the lower bracket. Is it necessary?
  4. Thanks Chris and Josef. The main issue is that the bush is already on the upper column because the steering lock bulge won't go through the bush. I think I'll try a combination of both ideas using a jubilee clip and judicious chamfering.
  5. I've replaced the upper steering column on my GT6 MKIII, and am trying to get it back in the tube. I have to put the lower bush on the column before I insert it because the steering lock is too big. I've tried lubricating the bush with washing up liquid but the lugs just won't slide into the tube. Putting the end of the bush against the vice jaws and pushing the tube isn't working. Ideas gratefully received.
  6. I bought a new one in the end, the switch wasn't very well. Thanks for the advice.
  7. I'm replacing the steering column on my GT6 MKIII and the indicator switch wires have rusted off. I have tried soldering them back on but there is nothing to solder to. Is it safe to bore through the existing holes in the pink circuit card and then solder the wires?
