  1. The one we have got seems to be a 2.3 ratio according to the box. Looks quite neat with the battery. Have a show on Sunday, then we’ll have a proper look. The brakes are fine for me, it’s just herself that finds it less fun. Thanks for the info.
  2. Thanks for your thought’s on this. Oddly there are a couple of brackets bolted through the bulkhead at the cylinder side doing nothing. Wonder if it had one fitted there at some time? Has a new cylinder on. Maybe they thought it was the problem, but was the servo doing it’s usual thing of leaking fluid into the vac chamber? We’ll have a look at fitting in the same location, or at he battery side as suggested. Many thanks
  3. Considering a servo on the brakes for the other half. Too used to the modern cars! Anyone fitted one? Just wondered where the best location is.
  4. Hi all, getting to the end of the show season, so consider it’s time to sort the prop vibrations. Think the consensus of opinion when I first mentioned it, is to get a new prop. We fitted new joints and it helped, but it obviously out of balance as well. Before jumping in and buying a shaft, is there any way of fitting an overdrive or altering the gearing.? Car is mk1. Any more than 50mph seems to be reviving like hell. I know our MGB od makes a huge difference. Any ideas welcome.
  5. Just had a mess in the garage. The forward and back motion of the lever seems fine. All the gears mesh fine. Car’s been stood in a collection for many years. The spring that returns the lever ‘up’ after coming out of reverse is either partially seized or a weak spring. Part of the kit by the looks of the diagram. Problem is the lever seems to throw too far to the right, so coming out of third, if you keep the lever across to the right as Jayne does, it comes to a stop rather than going in gear. Push the lever to the left a bit and it goes straight into fourth without issue. We’ll get a kit organised and have a look in.
  6. Thanks for the info. Gearbox works fine (apart from a weak 2nd gear synchro) if you fiddle with the position on going from 3rd to 4th. Not bothered about the 2nd synchro, a little rev and it pops in fine. I can cope, but the other half can’t handle the awkward change. Will see who’s best price for the bids. Thanks Rob
  7. Tanks for that. The spring return on reverse is a bit weak , so probably the issue. Do we need the tunnel out or not? Cheers Rob
  8. Hi all, anyone had issues with selecting top gear on 2ltr car? All the others are fine but the lever seems to have too much travel to the right when going for top and comes against stop. If you move it to the left a bit it can be engaged fine. Just a pain really, not stopping the car being used.

    14inch wheels?

Got the Minilite lookalikes on today. Front seems fine in the lock both ways. Rears have about a 1/4 inch clearance, so we'll keep an eye on those the first time we take it out. When I was swapping the rear arm over today, noticed we have a good 3/4 inch clearance there so good me thinks,
  10. Got the tie rods both the same today. Brackets were the right way up so just turned the wrong one over. Got a bit of a look at the next job while under there on the lift, the welding at the rear chassis end. Doesn't look too bad though, I've sorted worse.

    14inch wheels?

Got some fancy 14 inch alloys from my old spitfire kicking around the garage. They are fitted with 165/70 tyres. As far as I can make out the original tyres were CP 560 x 13 with a diameter of around 600mm. The 165/70's are 586mm Rim will be wider though at 5.5. Anyone fitted 14's on a Vitesse Mk1? Any info of clearance issues will be helpful. Were not a problem on the Spit.
  12. Just downloaded the pdf manual. Cheers Johny.
  13. Cheers Colin, the brackets look fine, just obviously put one of the arms on down side up. Will sort it tomorrow. Bob
  14. Hi all, new member, new owner. Late model 68 2ltr. Just been under the car and some kind person has replaced the rear outriggers. Problem is they seem to have fitted the tie bars in an odd fashion? One has the 'kink' facing up and the other facing down. Which way up do these bars normally fit? Can take pic tomorrow when the car is back on the lift if you are not sure what I'm on about. Bob
