Difficult to say as it depends firstly on how much salt is put down. Here in the North East they proudly boast of how many tons they use every night - it has been dry for the past few days and you can see the stuff blowing about the road surface! I reckon it will take a few days of heavy rain before my GT6 sees the great outdoors.

Just to close the circle on this thread, I decided to change the gearbox now as it had suddenly become very noisy, and so I approached TD Fitchett about a service exchange box. They didn't have this particular item in stock, but said they could rebuild mine in 2/3 days. The box was removed last Thursday and sent via Parcelforce that day, and was received by Fitchett's on Friday morning. I got a telephone call from Tony Fitchett at 2.30 to say he had completed the rebuild and he would return the item the following day - WOW! We received the rebuilt box yesterday afternoon.

TD Fitchett may not have the fancy websites of some other suppliers, but their service can only be described as exemplary.

I have no connection with TD Fitchett except as a very satisfied customer.

[A mystery gearbox]

I raised a query about a WE prefix on a GT6 box a few days ago, and the concensus of opinion was that I have a Dolomite 1850 3-rail box, posibly one of the best types of box to find on a GT6!

Thank you all for your prompt replies. I am thinking of fitting an exchange box over the winter, so it seems that I need to search for a 1850 box, rather than a GT6 box.

I have a 1972 GT6 Mk3. It's a bits-and-pieces car, so the 3-rail gearbox has a J-type overdrive. But the number on the box is WE13325, which doesn't seem to accord with any lists I have found. Can anyone suggest what gearbox I've got, please?
