May i suggest that nut should be screwed up against the cable fork
there are 4 nuts one in the fork one to lock the fork and then one either side of the spring plate
none left in no mans land

Thanks Pete, have the other side to do and then adjustments before tightening up. Although I probably would have forgotten.

Well did some more work on the car, oil and filter, all fluids changed except antifreeze, will do that when I can get the car outside. Changed the gearbox and overdive oil, wow it had turned into sludge so added just over a litre, will run the car and drop it again. I should change the oil in the diff, any advice on that one? Never done that before, anyway a pic of the sludge coming out of the box and some new bits on the handbrake cable.

That was superb.

I wouldn't worry, if you are using celly, a good few coats and then flat back and polish, should be fine

Superb work and very organised, I may follow in your shoes and make up some spare halfshafts. I have the hub remover

Popped a little bit of paint on this weekend, need to do the door again, put it on quite thick with a 40/60 split to paint/thinners. Given I only heated the garage with a space heater quite pleased with the shine direct from the gun, need to flat back and polish. A lot less stressful doing a bit at a time and easier to manage.

Well, car started fine, oil was changed last year but will change this again along with the filter, looking forward to the spares day tomorrow, need to pick up a few things and it will be good to attend a few shows again.

My understanding was that the chassis and body were mated before painting, so most of the chassis is body colour but some less accessible bits remained black.
I agree with that, when I took my Spitfire off the chasis part of it was indeed black and basically unprotected, now it has had numerous undercoats and a thick brush on top coat.

It's not that difficult to be honest, you need to take your time and it is all about the prep. I went with an airfed mask mainly for clarity as I found myself rushing with a normal mask, it helped a lot with my final painting. I only use cellulose which is very forgiving.

Looks fantastic, huge amount of work going into this. I need to look at my suspension on my 4A, luckily the PO was fanatical about all of the mechanical bits and used the car as it was intended which meant the bodywork was not touched for 35 years. Love the patina but I do need to make a start to ensure she is on the road for another 50+ years.

Will be flatting back the bonnet and polishing up as per the rest of the bodywork.

I was the owner of this car from 94 - 02 have quite a lot of history and back story if anyone now owns it. Original colour was Mimosa I think but I painted it in Saphire blue. PM me if you want any more info and pics etc.

Superb work Pete, I need to go through my TR4A before the Spring. One of the best cars I have, awesome daily driver when the weather is acceptable here in South Wales

That windscreen trim, was it a plastic or a metal one ?
It is a metal one, just waiting for warmer days to refit it. When I removed it I could see that it hadn't quite caught properly on all of the corners but wasn't noticeable when on, will keep an eye on those when I refit, it's not easy but well worth it.

I've got one and it's quite aggressive so I've been using it sparingly so I don't bite deeply into the metal beneath paint.
The paint on the bonnet is quite thick though so I'll make most use of it there I think.
You do need to be careful but I found the plastic wheels a lot better, I used a sanding disc on one of my doors and had to finish off with some filler but it didn't take long. Restoration looks fantastic, keep up the good work.

I'd get a grinder on the paintwork with the appropriate removal wheel on it, it will save you a lot of time.

Any recommendations for tyres? I have Yokohama 175/70/13s on the car at the moment, not sure if I could squeeze to 185/70/13s. Anyway the current Yokos have been on the car for over 10 years.

Superb build, anymore pics?

A few more updates, the passenger side is taking slightly longer to prepare for top coat, I've had to put some small amounts of filler in the boot to level it out, got it a bit too hot when I was removing the paint. A quick flat back on the rear wings that require no prep, prime and top coat. I have a scissor lift arriving soon so life will be much easier when polishing up:
