  1. As he did his apprenticeship on Triumphs, I'd have a guess at insider knowledge mixed with brute force! I'm just glad that they're now in situ on the vehicle so the money I spent on them isn't wasted while they languish unused on the garage floor.
  2. So, update re my new bumpers. Having enlisted the very kind help of Pete and Clive a couple of months back on a sunny but freezing Saturday afternoon, on which we tried and tried to fit the bumpers but had no joy. I had another attempt to fit them after that but still failed miserably, so I contacted the people that resprayed my car a couple of years back for some advice, as they'd removed and refitted the bumpers at the time. I ended up booking the car in with them and for one hour's labour charge, the car is now wearing his brand new gleaming white bumpers. I guess now I owe it to him to finish the job off with a set of shiny new chrome end caps!
  3. If you're up for lending a hand/your expertise that would be brill! Can't seem to message you for some reason. Maybe drop me a line and I'll reply. Ta muchly!
  4. Clive, if you're bored and have an overwhelming urge for a free beer or two your help will be most welcome! No pressure though!
  5. I'm sure the added bonus of fragrant bumpers will delight the people I drive past! I'll try your suggestions at the weekend when I try fitting a couple of the new bumper sections - and no doubt make the air turn blue when it doesn't work!
  6. Ok so I gave in and purchased some gleaming new rubber bumpers for my Herald. I've managed to get the old set off the car but fitting the new ones looks like it's not going to be too easy. Any suggestions or tips to make it easier? Or if anyone has a burning desire to dHelp me fit them, give me a shout. Lunch or a couple of pints in it as a thank you!
  7. Thanks all. I think I'll give Canleys a call in the morning and order one from them. The current one's been in longer than I've owned the car - ten years! No wonder it's time for a new one!
  8. Had my 13/60 Herald serviced today and discovered the water pump is leaking. Any advice or recommendations where to get one or whether there is a most suitable one to fit? Want to get it done soon so I can continue using it while the (supposed!) summer is here!
  9. Try gumtree as a free alternative or addition to your eBay ad
  10. Oh I forgot to add that the car now feels so light it's like it has power steering! It also means I have two 175/70/13 tyres which are under a year old and have done less than 1,000 miles up for sale if anyone is interested!
  11. Well I spoke to the tyre specialist in Beaulieu who suggested 155/70/13 or 165/70/13, but also 155/80/13. His advice was to go to a local tyre place and see if they would try out a few tyre sizes on two of the wheels and see what they look like on the car so I could choose the size I preferred. Luckily I found a place that was willing to do just that, so I've now gone for a full set of 155/70/13 including the spare. Sorted! Thanks for your help and advice, peeps!
  12. Thanks guys. I might also seek the advice of a classic car tyre specialist and see what they reckon. I'll post any findings here in case anyone else finds it useful.
  13. I have a set of Minilites on my Herald Convertible and want to get some new tyres. The current ones (supplied already fitted to the Minilites when I bought the wheels new from TSSC) have always looked too big and fat. They are currently fitted with 175/70/R13 tyres. I want to find out if there is a correct or more suitable tyre size I should be going for. I have contacted Minilite who were less than interested, only telling me they "don't get involved with tyres" when I asked them for a recommended tyre size seeing as how they are the manufacturer of the wheels. The wheels say "13J" on them. Can anyone offer any advice on the best size to go for?
  14. Anyone know of a suitable paint or method of cleaning up the appearance of the white rubber bumpers on a Herald? I don't want to have to spend out on an expensive brand new set if I don't need to! I'm currently wondering about using white wall tyre paint. Any thoughts or suggestions?
