My trunnionless seem to be doing well. Plenty of all-weather use and no maintenance apart from being squirted with WD40 once a year (If I remember) 5 years on the road, so not really long term.

For longer term reviews check on Caterhams, they have used them for years. But I was "impressed" enough to pay the extra for trunnionless over conventional uprights with trunnions. Though if you have a spitfire/herald it gets expensive as you may well need the calliper brackets, which ARE pricey.

Thanks. I have the brackets already

  2. I’m just nervous after I had one break... probably down to previous owner as it had corrosion pits. As I’m changing both to later style to take type 16 caliper brackets it would be the time to upgrade them if it’s worthwhile....

  3. I’m finally just getting round to fitting my type 16’s onto the 1600 vitesse.

Just to confirm, should the rear slaves be 5/8”  cylinders and the master be 0.7”  ?

ive got most of the other odd  bits just need to buy new verticle links and cylinders.

Has anyone fitted the canley trunionless Vertical links? After having one snap I’m tempted to but those instead!

  4. Sorted

I pulled the cam out to find out what was up and checked which part number it was, I’d fitted my new 306785 by mistake instead of my new old stock 308778, no wonder the timing looked odd! 18/58 when it should have been 25/65 !!!

re timed with the 308778 and all is spot on, equal lift at overlap / tdc and correct lift!...

    thanks for the advice though.

  5. I’m just installing a duplex chain and gear set on my 1600 vitesse during the engine re-build.

The new cam gear is biased / dished  one way by 170 thou.

When im trying to time the cam this offset eliminates the ability to turn the cam gear over to get the cam timing adjustment I need as it throws out the chain alignment

    Anyone got any ideas???

i can’t turn the crank gear around as it is machined our on one end to fit snugly against the crankshaft nose.

Oh, I didn't know that. I got some adaptors cheap (but more than £2.25 - that really was remarkably good - or a misprint!) to convert the Atlas to disc brakes some time. Now you've got me wondering what I've got!

    Cheers, Richard

    Nope no misprint... ?

shipping was more than the actual cost!
