Fortunately the valve seats were replaced with hardened ones it’s the pinking that’s the killer!
-
Trouble is I’m running 10:1 compression and can’t stop it pinking under load no matter what I do with mixture and timing!!!
-
Has anyone used this stuff, if you believe the blurb it sounds pretty good....but expensive...
-
Dave
perfect that’s what I needed. Looks like I’ll need to make new pipes from the 4 way to the flex hoses as mine currently comes out behind the wheel.
-
Thanks. Any pictures?
-
No I’ve got them made but not bent to shape yet
-
Does anyone have any pictures on how the pipes / hoses are routed on type 16’s? Is the hose in the front or behind the suspension arms???
-
Another question, do I need later hubs or will my type 12 wheel hubs work?

What’s the best value for money replacement halogen headlight units ( 5 3/4”) ?

My trunnionless seem to be doing well. Plenty of all-weather use and no maintenance apart from being squirted with WD40 once a year (If I remember) 5 years on the road, so not really long term.
For longer term reviews check on Caterhams, they have used them for years. But I was "impressed" enough to pay the extra for trunnionless over conventional uprights with trunnions. Though if you have a spitfire/herald it gets expensive as you may well need the calliper brackets, which ARE pricey.
Thanks. I have the brackets already
-
I’m just nervous after I had one break... probably down to previous owner as it had corrosion pits. As I’m changing both to later style to take type 16 caliper brackets it would be the time to upgrade them if it’s worthwhile....

Any thoughts on the canley trunionless vertical links?
-
Thanks
yup I’ve got the type 16 adapter plates
( see earlier in the thread)

I’m finally just getting round to fitting my type 16’s onto the 1600 vitesse.
Just to confirm, should the rear slaves be 5/8” cylinders and the master be 0.7” ?
ive got most of the other odd bits just need to buy new verticle links and cylinders.
Has anyone fitted the canley trunionless Vertical links? After having one snap I’m tempted to but those instead!

Sorted
I pulled the cam out to find out what was up and checked which part number it was, I’d fitted my new 306785 by mistake instead of my new old stock 308778, no wonder the timing looked odd! 18/58 when it should have been 25/65 !!!
re timed with the 308778 and all is spot on, equal lift at overlap / tdc and correct lift!...
thanks for the advice though.

I’d need a lot of shims as it’s .170 out of alignment!!
-
I’m just installing a duplex chain and gear set on my 1600 vitesse during the engine re-build.
The new cam gear is biased / dished one way by 170 thou.
When im trying to time the cam this offset eliminates the ability to turn the cam gear over to get the cam timing adjustment I need as it throws out the chain alignment
Anyone got any ideas???
i can’t turn the crank gear around as it is machined our on one end to fit snugly against the crankshaft nose.

I’m considering putting a servo on and larger displacement master cylinder with the 4 piston calipers. Servo to reduce the pedal load and larger bore master cylinder to displace the needed amount of fluid.
-
Looking at these they don’t have two circuits only one single inlet pipe

Oh, I didn't know that. I got some adaptors cheap (but more than £2.25 - that really was remarkably good - or a misprint!) to convert the Atlas to disc brakes some time. Now you've got me wondering what I've got!
Cheers, Richard
Nope no misprint... ?
shipping was more than the actual cost!
-
Thanks Clive.
Is the attachment bolt pitch the same on the later metric ones? Also what do you do about pipes, can you get metric to imperial adaptor fittings?
seems like a result in the brackets... I need steering arms now!
