  1. Here's the cap with seal missing.

Ben, many thanks for the Presto 75 link. I'd originally thought the seal assy was riveted to the boss but on closer examination it is threaded. So I'll order one of the refurbishment kits which should do the job.

Doug, No I hadn't appreciated they were worth that much. I'd bought this in 2009 for my 2.5L Mk3 Spitfire resto using a Mk2 GT6 bonnet. And it doesn't fit as too tall.

    Thanks for all the comments.

  2. Hi John, yes very nearly there now. Will order the coil tomorrow am. All fluids in tomorrow, meeting auto elec to define all the many fuses wednesday, a few more minor bits then circuits debug by the weekend. If nothing blows up - have bought a fire extinguisher - then I'll try to start her. Interior all done and pleased with the seats and dash. Wiring the dashes and switchgear connections went together really quickly thankfully. Will email you a few pics once I've taken some better ones. So hopefully she'll be on the road in 2-3 weeks. And to think I started the resto March 2007!

Hope your having fun with yours, have you decided on a new project or are you having a break from building cars?

  3. Yet another request for electrical assist as I get nearer to firing up the engine in the next few days.

Now got the NGK spark plugs as recommended. Car's ignition wiring is non ballast and have optical points in the dizzy.

From what I've read elsewhere I need a 3 Ohm coil. What's the best one to buy? Or do I just go for the Lucas DLB105 coil.

    Thanks

  4. Hi John, spent the day straightening and welding the seat frames, all done now thankfully. Quote request sent to Park Lane for seat kits. We do seem to be enjoying the same work items in parallel which is good fun. I'm about three months off finishing the car so hopefully get her to a Triumph meet in the summer months.

  5. John, I know what you mean ref dismantling the seats, messy indeed. I took care as covers are vg so could be useful to someone else. Unfortunately I discovered the drivers upright frame is badly twisted and both seats have weld stress fractures. So that's today's job to fix them. I'll order from park lane too, seem to get lots of positive reviews. Roy

  6. Hi All, I bought a pair of later Spitfire reclining vinyl seats with headrests at Stoneleigh. They've got a seatbelt sensor switch in the squabs. Stripped and dismantled now ready to rebuild with new foams and covers. Before I can order the new parts, what's the difference between Mk4 and 1500 seats? No idea what I've bought in than sense. Pics attached. Thanks, Roy

  7. I had this happen to me once albeit on a viva hc but after weeks of trying everything it turned out to be one of the plug leads failing. Worth checking this before spending lots of money replacing parts. Symptoms you describe were very similar.

  8. Turns out the fan I have is 10" dia. Have fitted to the suck side of the rad now and also I did fit a manual switch as well. Will be interesting to see how it all works in due course.

If it turns out not to be good enough, I'll go down the Golf radiator route with twin fans which I know other Triumph 6 cylinder engine owners have done.

  9. Thanks Clive, so I'll assume it's best to fit an electric fan rather than retain the standard fan. Cowls not fitted yet, but of course they will be.

As for completion, missed this summers target, so later this year most likely. Assuming my knackered knees hold out.

  10. I'm just about to finish my Spitfire build and need the form's recommendation on whether to replace the std engine cooling fan with an electric fan mounted on the radiator.

    Engine is a 2.5L TC.

Radiator is a GT6 recon unit.

I have a 9" dia cooling fan which I could fit. Is this big enough?

    Many thanks

  11. And is that a mk3 spitfire (with 2 extra pots) that may be nearing completion????

It certainly is Clive, been on it since August, on a mission to get it fired up the year end.

Ref the carb mounts, I did port the inlet manifold bores before fitting, will look at slotting the carb holes.

Stressing over the fuel pipe route now as rotoflex install obstructs the route along the chassis.
