Pete, understood. I was keen to determine the correct criteria but as you say, it doesn't matter too much.
Many thanks, Roy

Help.....
I'm currently at the stage on my rebuild of fitting the distributor to my 2500 engine.
Problem is I'm unsure which drive gear to use and what the correct alignment is.
The engine is a 2500 carb model. Reading good ol Haynes has left me completely confused. It conflicts instructions for a 2000 and 2500 engine missing out key bits of information.
So questions I have are;
1. Which is the correct drive gear from those shown below - A or B?
2. Which position should the oil pump shaft slot be in as per the workshop manual shown?
3. Should the slot on the gear top face when fitted in place be vertical as shown or at 45' facing rearwards?
4. Should the crank timing be set to TDC or the firing psn of 8' BTDC?
Any help on this would be very much appreciated.
I'm fitting a new / recon distributor Lucas 41219 which I believe is a 22D6 and for a TR6. The company I bought this from said it would be ideal for my engine.

Hi Chris,
Thank you very much for the Ceandess info and link. I never knew they existed so will buy a new cap from them.
Will leave the neck in place, no need to remove it now.
I bead blasted the cover then painted with an etch primer. The finish coat is is high temperature metallic black paint but in reality it looks more like dark grey.
Regards

Roy, did you win this one on EBay the other week? I was watching one but didn't bid this time but plan to get the next one....just to have which I know is a little sad. Mike
Hi Mike,
I bought the cover around five years ago, really ropey condition, still cost me a lot then. All refurbed now. Just need to get the filler cap re'chromed.

Pete, thanks for that. And good idea to add the grease nipple, I'll do the same.

Fitting up my rear brake system now. Which way round does the handbrake relay lever arm go?
As shown below or the other way round with the protruding boss beneath?
Have looked in various manuals but its not clear which way round the lever is fitted.
Thanks

Have removed the cap by pressing out the filler cap pivot pin. Will just leave the housing in place and mask up for painting.

Has anyone on here removed, or know how to, the filler cap housing from an SAH rocker cover?
I'm about to refurbish the cover but need to remove the filler cap stem portion that goes into the aluminium body of the cover top.
Looks like a press fit in but I don't want to attempt to remove it just yet in case I damage it.
Not sure if the stem is a two piece of single piece tube.
Thanks
