  1. Hi. Due to circumstances outside my control, I am having to do the repairs on my mk4 spitfire body tub off of the chassis. Obviously the priority is to level up & brace everything, before sill removal. Have got the door gaps perfect, but the distance between the edge of the windscreen frame, to the top of the B posts, is 10mm less on the driver's side. If I change anything else to make the frame/B posts match, I lose the door gaps. Suspect that years of the driver hauling themselves out using the windscreen frame has bent the frame. What I would like is for someone to measure the distance between a known point on each edge of the windscreen frame, to a known point on each B post. Would tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree..! Afraid I don't have a hardtop to use as a guide, but will refit the quarter light (gt6) frames on the doors at the weekend, to get an idea of screen angle correctness... Many thanks.
  2. As part of the body tub I got earlier this year, he threw in a pair of replacement floor panels. The body needs the usual sills/ A post lowers replaced as well. Thing is... should the floors have a lip on the sill edge? Mine are flat. I'm the person who studies things for months, then finally starts cutting..! If they're no good, or will give me problems, will order genuine parts, along with the sills etc...
  3. Would love to get my hands on this too..! A little way off wiring still, but I've been thinking about the limitations of the original loom too...
  4. I can understand that. Thanks for the advice. Have still got the old chassis, so will cut that down, so just the body mounting section is left. Figure if I bolt the tub to that, it will be kept straight (obviously bracing the door gaps). Easy enough to put it on it's side for floors etc. First time I've attempted anything like this..! Many thanks.
  5. Has anyone had any experience of the rollover jigs seen on ebay? Thinking about one for doing my spitfire tub, as have limited space to work, & looks easier to reach every part to weld etc... Many thanks.
  6. Nice one thanks. That for paint removal or grinding..?
  7. Which discs are recommended for paint removal, and cleaning/grinding welds please..? Many thanks.
  8. Hi Gary. I got the car as an original mk3 rotoflex gt6, so no reason to suspect the spring. It's got six leaves in total. It's stored away from home, so can't take a picture at the moment. Appreciate that there's more weight to go on during the project, so hope it does settle. It's been rolled a few times, so should have a bit...
  9. I've already fitted a 3/4" lowering block, so even more concerned at the height..!
  10. Big day today. Finally got hold of a spitfire body tub, to go onto my gt6 chassis. (Don't shoot me!). Couldn't resist placing it on the chassis, but one thing was immediately obvious. Now I appreciate there's more weight to go on, ie fuel tank/seats etc, but there seems to be a huge gap between the top of the wheel & rear arch. Should I have a spitfire leaf spring, & if so, will it fit onto rotoflex uprights...? Many thanks.
  11. Hi. Thinking ahead a couple of months, but does anyone know of a spitfire mk4 / 1500 body tub coming up for sale..? I'm in the southwest, but would do a road trip for the right one..! Many thanks. Steve.
  12. That's useful to know, thanks. Will be finding someone to do the hardened valve seats for unleaded, then having a good look and think, as to whether I'm brave enough!
  13. Is this something that can be done by oneself..? Approaching the engine stripdown stage on my gt6 build. Fancy fitting a fast road cam, but would be better to sort the head too. Very much into the hands on approach, so would be very satisfying to tune it myself....
  14. That's right..! Great communication & sorted me straight out with a selection of spacers. Recommended :-)
  15. Hi. Don't suppose anybody has a couple of 0.139" spacers in their spares box..? Mailed Canleys, but nobody is making them anymore... Many thanks.
  16. Have managed to source a used replacement thanks.. :-)
  17. Anybody know where I might find a clutch release fork for a mk3 gt6? Mine has a crack in the indent that pivots on the stud. Tried welding it, but doesn't look like normal mild steel? Canley's etc all say no longer available...
  18. Exactly what I needed, thanks. Fitted one side like that yesterday, but the disc rubs slightly on the track rod end.. Almost looks like there should be a spacer between the vertical link & steering arm.
  19. I know this should be simple, but can someone please clarify the order that the shield/vertical link/calliper mount bolt together..? Started building up the front on my gt6 chassis, but whichever way I put the shield on, it doesn't look right. Many thanks. Steve. Building a gt6 convertible.
