Thanks to everyone who helped on this topic. Some great advice. Rear tub removed, panels and metal arrived, garage tidied, so it's now practice and then deciding if I remove the front bulkhead to fully paint the chassis....

Thanks for all the replies. I have got some sheet metal from Frosts which seem good. Any views, 6mm, 8mm or 9mm welding wire for body panels? Removed the rear body tub the weekend. Now for plenty of practice.

Thanks everyone. Nothing a the local colleges. I am using a Clarke 135 TE Mig welder and a large gas bottle.

I am about to embark on recommissioning my Vitesse and will need to get the MIG welder out. I want to be a better welder before I get going. Anyone know of anyone or where I can get some MIG welding training. Perhaps a day or half a day to hone my skills. I live in Guildford. Thanks.

Thanks, I think it is one of the TD Fitchett ones that I have which does not fit. I am leaning towards welding on a new upstanding lip to the better fitting panel.

I am replacing a Vitesse MK2 rear inner wheel arch outer panel. I have tried 2 different panels. One panel has the flange to fit to the inner panel via spot welds but the panel is not a good fit. I have another panel from Rimmers that fits but does not the flange to fit to the inner panel. Any suggestions on where to get the best MK2 rear inner wheel arch outer panel and or how to fit the panel I have that does not have the flange. Many thanks, Jonathan

Massive thanks to Doug and Pete. They arrived today and within minutes (before cups of tea) they were under the bonnet with the rocker cover off for a systematic inspection. True to their word they fixed the problem. Engine running!!!!! What fantastic service, travelling all the way from Luton at short notice, with all the expertise you could ever need. Carbs back on. Still does not start. Plugs dry after firing so I am guessing fuel not getting through to plugs. Any further thoughts, don't want to have to admit defeat and go to a garage!

Carbs stripped and back together. Manifold and exhaust off. Waiting new gaskets

Diaphragms look fine and are supple. New Smiths emission valve diaphragm on its way, plus gaskets. Checking, timing, compression and vacuum.

Thanks everyone! Carbs striped down, they were all clean inside and looked good. Having some trouble centralising needles. They don't go down the last 5mm when I tighten

I was not with the car when it stopped, my parents were running it. One said it just stopped the other said there was a bang! Piston lifts but does not go all the way down (stops about 5mm short). Same on both carbs. Going to strip down carbs and remove manifold/replace gasket. Will also look at the timing
