  1. Hi Pete. i am located in darkest West Devon. regards Paul.
  2. Hi Pete. Very new to this game, currently only casual driving, I have rebuilt the car from its bits up to now so do eventually get there but it looks as if I may need special tools for the gearbox. The noise seems suspiciously like what I used to call the thrust bearing? Noisy even in neutral, quiet as soon as I press the clutch. Car has only done 46,000 genuine miles. thoughts?
  3. Hi All. How strange, I logged on today also to look for guidance on Vitesse 2L mark 2 convertible with noisy gearbox and found this nearly identical issue. - I have no O/D. I, perhaps naively, thought it would be knackered bearings and a case of buying a reconditioning kit and struggling through the instructions in the service manual with bits and pieces of advice from you guys and local garages. Am I to understand it is beyond my pay grade and that the available bits from rimmer bros and the like may be a bit naff? I would be glad of all opinions! - Should I go whole hog and fit O/D at same time? Thanks. Paul.
  4. Hi David. Sort of but have double chamfer on head for trim to sit behind. Somewhere someone is selling these for about £5 /100 - just cant find them!
  5. Hi Everybody. I have removed all the chrome body strips & rivets to bead blast & repaint my bodywork. I drilled out the rivets which the strips clipped on to. I am trying to get a bag of these to replace these strips. Our well known suppliers of triumph spares are trying to charge 50p each (and a lot are needed) for these. In the parts book they are called Imex, any ideas on another source?
  6. Thanks for the great prompt advice guys, I was hoping you were going to confirm less is more!! Whilst I have your ears, what about best way to clean up and salvage the seized master cylinders? And tips for cleaning up chrome and aluminium trim??

I have acquired from my cousin a 1969 2L Mk2 Vitesse with 42,000 genuine miles on the clock. It was dismantled in 1976 and has been stored in a dry garage since then. The engine was sound when dismantled, the oil was left in whilst it was stored. This is my first car rebuild so would appreciate advice on how much intervention I should initially do on the engine. The engine turns over by hand smoothly, all the plugs look good, i am tempted to do as little as possible, try and get her going and deal with any problems I then find. Guidance please?!!!
