Connor, so head off, followers out---what next? new set of followers and push rods or what---I'm being selfish and thinking about when I start on mine!!

Great, will now sort mine out as reckon it's the same problem.
Be interested to see if you can, as Iain has suggested, maybe sort out without taking the head off??

worth looking at this post from the TR-Register as it also suggest that the cam follower tappets may be the issue??

So, I've got silicone in my system, think it's great.
Can I stick with it when fitting one of these servos or play safe and go back to the old corrosive stuff??

Interestingly the "powertune" unit identified by Pete is not "warranted" for use with silicone brake fluid.
Do you think this applies to all units ??

Good question, I don't know whether new followers were used, it is original cam.
Head rocker clearances are all OK and "quiet"

I have exactly the same "tappets!!!! noise"
gets quieter as the engine warms up, engine specialist reckons it down to incorrectly seated/yet to be properly "worn in" CAM Follower tappets, engine was rebuilt 1000miles ago
makes no difference to performance, rolling road tests outperform spec

Thanks both, sense of smell not good enough to distinguish.
Checked sump etc, so will have to bite the bullet and go through the hassle of seal replacement
presume the bell housing hole and jiggle pin are there for this purpose ie to discharge the leak rather than let it build up in the housing??

Got an annoying drip from the "split pin" hole in the bottom of the bell housing.
Any suggestions as to whether this is gearbox or engine seal related?

For my own and the safety of other road users!!!, I want to add a brake servo to my Spitfire 1500.
Any recommendations as to the best to fit?,
Moss have two in their catalogue: Lockheed £202 and aftermarket £97
and also, any recommendations for installing process etc?

Just getting around to fitting a hood to my Spitfire 1500.
Not sure where the popper nearest the door should be located.
The Moss catalogue would suggest it should be fitted "on top " of the B Post Aluminium cap.
So, my question?, is this correct and if so do I fit on top of the B post cap or drill a hole in the cap to accommodate the popper ( the Moss catalogue shows a washer should be fitted under this popper but why ??)
Any advise would be appreciated

I went through the same exercise last year and although a bit fiddly (especially as I've got big hands !!) I had no problems, all went together and locks etc work well.
Unfortunately I can't remember any particular sequence of install but I would have followed the info in the "Repair Operation Manual".
Think you just need to persevere !!!

Got it fitted, in the end even though it was a very snug fit, it slid in like a dream.
I gave it a good smear of grease, then fitted the whole outer column assembly into a long sash cramp and with a 3/4" socket as the "pusher" it slid in easily as I screwed up the sash cramp

Is there a "right/wrong way" to put in the top bush, as my old one had disintegrated there was no way I could check it
The new one (from MOSS) has slightly differing length slots at each end------photo attached

So, that was the easy part !!!!, now got both bushes out, top one was in many pieces, bottom one rather slack. Howq do I get the new bottom bush back in..somehow need to compress the rubber pips and press it in with something !!, any thoughts???

Thanks for all responses, managed to use a centre punch to get a bit of movement and then just got a pair of mole grips to grip and finally turn them out

Your instructions state that Silicone fluid is not recommended--any idea why ?
