  1. I remember the sleeve sliding into the hub while I held the ball bearings in place so presumably it should slide the other way
  2. I’ll have another go, I’ve tried by hand so I’ll use some tools to provide some leverage
  3. If that works will it allow the 2nd gear synchro ring and the hub to be properly aligned, thus fixing the problem?
  4. It seems stuck Johny and won’t move further so I guess tomorrow I’ll have to get the gearbox out and strip out the main shaft thanks so much for your help and to everyone else who’s advised and listened to this tale of woe julian
  5. It slides forward a little Johny but not enough to cover the small teeth
  6. Is it possible that I installed the top cover incorrectly?
  7. sorry attached wrong pic, hopefully this is better the 1/2 selector fork moves freely and there is movement of the 1/2 hub on the shaft julian
  8. Here’s a shot with the cover off and one of the underside of the cover julian
  9. No difference with the clutch down….sadly is it likely to be a problem with the selectors in the cover, springs etc? julian
  10. This as far forward as I can push it mid that enough to select second?
  11. Ahh, If the synchro hub was the problem would it also affect selection of 1st gear
  12. I can’t really say it was with any accuracy Johny, I assumed it was heres a pic taken with the remote off
  13. When I dismantled the gearbox the synchro hub exploded several times but seemed to go back together ok with all the all bearings and springs After reinstalling I was able to get into second gear before the test drive albeit with a great deal of hard pull from first gear, but now it won’t
  14. Yes I tried it but no difference after the test drive I can’t get it into 2nd at all i wondered if it’s the second gear synchro hub causing the problem, the synchro ring itself was completely worn away Julian
  15. Thanks Johny if the selector isn’t going into the second gear slot what could be the cause? Julian
  16. Despondent Spitfire Driver after a longer drive this morning none of my adjustments have worked now that it’s warmed up I can’t get second at all even with a lot of grunt also the speedo no longer works! on the upside the overdrive now works well I’m sensing the gearbox will have to be pulled again any thoughts chaps? despondent Julian
  17. That’s interesting Johny, I’ve taken the remote off and I can see that the reverse adjustment screw was wearing hard against the housing and preventing proper selection of 3rd I’ll adjust the screw now and refit to see if it’s made any difference julian
  18. 1st is ok and selects easily i didnt strip the top cover at all I just rebuilt the floppy remote Julian
  19. It’s the same with engine idling and off Pete
  20. Could this be reacted to the remote, I did overhaul it with a rebuild kit? I’ll look at the clutch now Julian
  21. The other three gears can be selected fairly smoothly with not much effort but second requires a really hard pull to select it Julian
  22. Test drive update today was the day, a very short drive to test the gearbox, gear selection is sharper but second really takes some effort to engage, when it does it’s fine with no crunch! Should I be concerned about this? not sure about the overdrive yet julian
  23. Thanks everyone You’re right Alex, the EBay ones do look just like other more expensive ones from Rimmers and others so I think I’ll be getting those best Julian
  24. I bought some vinyl seat covers via eBay a few years ago for my Mk3 Spitfire which have become easily scuffed and generally damaged through normal use im looking to replace them but see there is a wide range of covers available at a wide range of prices and presumably quality has anyone any purchasing experience/advice for buying vinyl covers? best Julian
