Cool - that makes sense - I have put a single system on the car (it was too far down the road before I realised !)

The oil light on my car isn’t working.
I have removed the wire from the sensor and had a test light connected with ignition on and nothing there (assume it should be live).
Any good ideas how to trace back what is wrong (I’ve had all the dash out as part of the rebuild but didn’t remove the wiring loom. Ignition light works and I’ve check the small fuse box with the 3 fuses in.

Any one know this wire might be for ? Front Fog Lights
Everything seems to work (I don’t have from fogs….but I don’t like having a random connector

For a complete picture of the cars progress this is a thread about an issue I’m having with with rear brakes
Hopefully new brake shoes will see this fixed.

I purchased the shoes from Rimmer Bros about 6 months ago……so I can rule it out I will buy new ones and also replace the springs and then I can check the movement of the slave cylinders - I will update you on progress next week

Windscreen in - I updated another thread with the details of my 6 failed and finally successful 7th attempt !!
I found have the seal the right way round made the world of difference 👍👍👍

Finally my windscreen is in ! First 6 goes with the seal round the wrong way didn’t work !!!
This drawing save the day.
Final go (number 7) with the screen rubber the right way round.
Seal a bit damaged from the first 6 goes the wrong way round - but good enough for some spring fun next year - after which it can come out.
This was my tool kit.

I wondered why I had so many nuts ! The bolts have Nyloc nuts on them.

So I stripped the brakes down and all looked ok, except on the lower spring on the binding side wasn’t on the furthers hole (which could have meant it was sticking.
This was the non-binding side
This was the binding side
What I did “find” was that the spring that returns the handbrake lever didn’t have much tension on it so I adjusted that so it looks like this now

Handbrake on
This has improved the feel of the handbrake and the lever is returning well.
I then looked at the drums (which I never gave too much attention when I was rebuilding the suspension) and the binding side had some “crud” on the inside so I got both drums and cleaned them up.
The binding side still has some pitting and score marks - I should probably get new ones
Anyway all back together and I will plan a test drive later - after part 5 of my windscreen fitting saga.
My secret weapons for success this time are KY Jelly and a Smoother Rope - wish me luck !

i think on the wheel arches 2 pairs of hands might have helps so you could get a better stretch and avoid the wrinkles.
But as you say with the roof on and seat belt in you can’t really see it 🤣🤣🤣

I’m going to strip them down tomorrow and see exactly where they are binding - can just feel the pull as you drop the clutch and going backwards the os wheel spins in the gavel because the ns os binding.
Hopefully a strip and rebuild will sort them.

Just thinking about the rebuild process, it is possible that I have put the drums on the opposite wheels - when I refurb that part I took both sides to pieces at the same time so these could have got swapped - could 42 years of wear made them “sided”…..not sure how I could tell

After a year of welding and rebuilding I’m starting to move the car under power up and down my drive.
The rear brakes are binding especially on the passenger side.
The brakes shoes are new as is the handbrake cable and fixings plus the brake cylinder.
I adjusted them by getting them to the point where the wheel didn’t turn and then eased it off until it turned.
Does that sound right ?
Any tips on how to adjust them different or other causes of the binding (I’m not 100% sure I got the handbrake set up right 😩😩)

I got 3m as I wanted to do the back panel as well - still have over 2m left after doing the rear wheel arches, b-pillars and rear panel !! So I might do the boot !
I purchased this contact adhesive from Amazon.
The card I had from the old trim was ok and I could use the rear wheel arch as a pattern
This was before
I had a bit of old carpet to put the new vinyl on face down - I think sprayed the material (cut to an 80cm x 60cm square) and the old trim. I also cut the rear wheel arch out of this same piece.
after 3-4 mins I brought them together and using some plastic lid and heavy tool boxes I let them “rest” for 10 mins. Then I cut round about 1” and made cuts at the corners and curved bits. Sprayed on some more adhesive and left for 3-4 mins.
This is what I got
Not perfect but good enough for my needs.
In the car it looks like this
And with the rear panel done the same way
I’m pleased with the results and once the seat belts are in I don’t think the wrinkles will show too much.

@Piglet I have the old vinyl which I’m hoping I can use as a template - I’m going to use spray contact adhesive and use my heat gun on the vinyl before I stretch into place - I should be having a go tomorrow - what’s this space !

Seats in - the method with the solder iron to make the holes was great.
I’ve refitted the dashboard and I just need the Tacho and a couple of bulbs.
I have test fitted the seat belts to make sure all my welding didn’t mess these up !
Planning to do the vinyl on the rear wheel arches and the B-pillar ok Wednesday
That just gives the windscreen - perhaps 5th time lucky 😜😜

@Josef thank you very much for breathing life into the tacho - I bought the car as a failed restoration project which had started 7 years ago, so I picked up the car in about 15 boxes plus the bonnet, tub, seats, chassis and exhaust pipe.
Would have been easy for it to be dropped at some point.
