Sounds like I installed it correctly then, I hooked it under and it was pushing against me until I screwed it in to place on either side.
I just took the pipe off at the filter and tried to suck the fuel in by mouth, it seemed like there was air getting in somewhere and I couldn’t suck the fuel out

Seems like no fuel even getting to the filter? Can’t tell. Maybe I fit the new pump incorrectly??

It makes no sense, the funnel to carb trick works perfectly fine, runs smooth, but even with a new pump, new filter and all new pipes, it can’t get the fuel…where must the problem lie?
when I do the funnel trick no fuel comes out of the open hose from the pump.

Ok so new pump installed…hasn’t solved…runs fine and idles with a bit of choke but as soon as I give it some revs it dies and refuses to start again
god what could it be

I can't seem to find a pressure gauge with such small accurate readings. They all seem to be like the one below where the icnrements of PSI are so large it would be hard to tell if its 2 or 5.

Not fully, I took the top part off to clean out that debris yesterday but I didn’t remove the entire thing from the engine block.
it would be in my best interest to repair it as I won’t order one in time for Thursday, on which I’m meant to be roadtripping to Cornwall!
it’s unlikely that that is the case though as it’s worked fine until recently, but worth having a look regardless.

Just another thought actually although I don’t really know what I’m talking about here but, is it possible that the part inside the engine block that actually pushes the lever of the pump up and down is broken somehow? Or is that not how it works!

I was thinking about just buying the exact same model but as has been mentioned before I doubt it’s genuine and more likely some Chinese rip off

Just tried the funnel for much longer and it worked perfectly, can confirm. This time there was no spluttering at all from other pipe so yeah looks like pump is the issue. Previous check with no pipe attached was probably just from fuel left in carb

Actually forget that last post it died after a while. I’m going to try the funnel again for a longer duration

Hang on a minute, I just did what you said too.. disconnected the pipe from carb but this time had no funnel attached…and the car is running and not stalling??? So having the pipe plugged in to the carb is causing the issue…?

Ok! So I did the test mentioned way back, using a funnel and gravity to get fuel to the carb, and the car ran well with that, it didn’t die but I let it run for a good minute or so which normally it can’t make.
while this was happening I had the pipe from pump to carb hanging off the car, and at first no petrol, then a little bit spitting out here and there but not much really.
there is petrol entering the filter, so the problem lies between the pump and the carb, since it’s brand new pipe I’m guessing the problem is the pump, so looks like I’m going to be ordering a new one.

Started it up anddddd no difference…same story! Starts up with a fair bit of choke and some throttle, then rapidly the power decreases until it shuts off…
only other fuel related thing I’m thinking it could be is the pump then, since I kept the same pump but replaced all the fuel lines

It is touching yeah, also here the rubber touches the engine block which makes me think if the engine gets too hot would it burn through..

Ok finally finished installing the new lines and filter. I’m a bit concerned about these kinks will they be a problem?
I also spilled a bit of fuel in the bay when unplugging the old line so bit concerned about a fire too.

Pulled out the tank to pump fuel line. Are we sure this is meant to be all pipe? It says 1968 on it which is also when my car was manufactured I believe, maybe just a coincidence. I do wonder why whoever replaced the pipes did so with rubber hose instead of an actual pipe though!

Another spot, looked in the fuel pump again and…see all of that debris in there! Looks like flakes of rust.

Another thing I just realised, the pipe from my tank nearly all the way to the pump is a hose, not a copper or steel pipe. The pipe ends pretty much immediately after leaving the tank as seen in the photo attached, that is just behind the back wheel (the bottom line is the fuel line) Guessing this isn’t normal and it should be steel all the way along?
