  1. I measured the endfloat of the 2nd and 3rd gear on their bushes. Thats the third, isn't it? LHS I have 0.01mm, RHS: 0mm. The ruler appears to hang somehow. In any case: there is not endfloat 😞 The second? No endfloat at all here 😞 I've checked that bushes flush with the lower shoulder of the gear, supported by a few coins. What the heck??
  2. Yeah I could do that, but that would also require to grind a bit from the backside. I'll resume tomorrow, thanks for your input! Good night
  3. ok, I am going to correct the rollers, I have to take one from the old set, since I've already used up all new rollers.. 😞 well The end float: Both new thrusts are too thick, cannot get them in. End float with both old thrusts is ca 0,01377in (0,35mm). Shall I keep the old ones, or adjust the new ones? What is your advise here?
  4. Here are the new and old washers side by side:
  5. Good evening 🙂 I am about to check the countershaft end float. I've inserted the new needle rollers into it. It appears the 24 rollers should go on each side, right?
  6. Hi there, I have ordered another (repro?) ring from a different supplier here in Germany, since the other three of my rings appear in good shape. NOS is unobtainable, isn't it?
  7. Ohhhh... My original gearbox is a KD... my "french" gearbox is KE, which is newer. So you are saying that I cannot re-use my synchronizer rings of my KD gearbox, right?
  8. This ring is shot: no gap at all! The other 2 rings have a 0,03in+ gap. The grooves feel also quite sharp. Fortunately I've still got the original (non-OD) gearbox of the car, I guess I will pick one or two good rings from it. What do you say?
  9. The clearance between the ring and the mating part is ca. 0,029in (ca. 0,75mm). The workshop manual doesn't contain info about hwo to check the rings for wear, doesn't it? The repro rings don't slide over 😞 That's pretty miserable...
  10. The box is gutted, I have the repair kit from R1mmers, and the parts are on my desk. My first question evolves around the synchro rings. The repair kit comes with 4 repro rings. A couple of things strike me when I compare the old ones with the repros: friction surface: OLD: Repro: The friction surface looks different, right? The repro groove patterns appear shallower. The locking keys also look slightly different: left REPRO(!), right OLD They appear bolder on the OLD part. Would you exchange this old ring with the repro ring? I guess I have to check the other old rings for wear. Thanks 🙂
  11. Good evening everybody, I have started working on my GT6+'s gearbox and OD. I thought it would be a good idea to post my progress here and to somehow involve you in my enterprise... It's the second gearbox which I am restoring. The XJ6 gearbox I did 15 years ago is still working and silent 😉 I've bought the GT6 gearbox from a Frenchman last year, it has the serial # KE1954 and comes with a D-Type overdrive. Thanks for your input 🙂 Greetings from Germany Daniel
  12. Hi there, thanks for your feedback! I've ordered a 3D-printed boss from a company in Switzerland for reasonable money. It is printed in metal. I am going to send a foto as soon as I receive it. greetings Dan
  13. Hi there, I've dissembled the master brake cylinder (GT6+) and purchased a repair set from R1mmer. I've attached a foto that compares the old (1, left) and the new (2, right) plastic pieces. I find the difference of the parts in the first line (not column) striking...the original part has an extra level of texture... What are you saying? Should I get a different repair set?? thanks Dan
  14. Hello, here is a foto of it, doesn't look that bad, no? Greetings Daniel
  15. Hi there, look at the tip of my mainshaft (GT6+, D-type O/D): see attached. It's pretty worn, isn't it? What shall I do with it? sand it? replace with NOS? replace with a new one? I guess NOS would be preferable but hard to find. How about the other options? Somebody followed these routes? thanks in advance Daniel
  16. Hi there, well, I managed to get one half of the hens teeth: a Formular Speedwell wheel. But it is missing the HUB... The hub consists of 2 halfes which you can see in the attached foto. Thanks for helping 🙂 Dan
  17. Hi Jo, you'd need 26 colors: B B/LG BO G GB GN GP GR GU GW LG/G LG/K N NY P PW R R/LG RG U U/LG U/LG UR UW W WN WR WY 😞
  18. Hi there, what material is required to do a loom? * 100m cable? ** (2 mm^2 = 0,7 GBP, 3 mm^2 = 1 GBP) * fuse box (included in harness??) * 60 bullet connectors (+terminals)? * 50 addtl. terminals * Grommets (not included in harness!) What do you think?
  19. Hi there, one of my future tasks on my GT6 mk2-project, is the new eletrical wiring. I have no access to an old harness. I find the prices for new looms quite hefty (e.g. 360GBP), so I am thinking about a diy-solution. I am not new to auto electrics, but I've never done a full harness by my self. Additionally, I am planning for a couple of customizations, which would require modifications to the standard harness, e.g. * 123distributor * Voltmeter * Oilpressure gauge * Electrical fan * Front fog lamps * Outlet for mobiles * E-Type style starter button * LED lamps and blinkers where possible (smaller cable-diameter possible!) What is your thinking? Is there a potential to safe money? thank you 🙂 Dan
  20. thank you, Pete 🙂 I didn't know that Canleys uses the proper Triumph number system.
  21. Hi there, is anybody aware of the triumph spare parts numbers of the 1./2. gear and 3./4. gear selector forks? I am lacking the sparts parts catalogue... I've got a mk2 OD gearbox, see photo attached. thanks in advance 😉
  22. Hi again: what special tools do I need for my engine rebuild, which I could order beforehand? My inventory sofar: Digital caliper: measuring range: 0 to 150 mm, Measuring accuracy: 0.01 mm. Micrometer div. sizes, accuracy: 0.01mm. torque wrench I guess I need at least plastigauge. To fit the bearings in the small end I need a tool, right? Which oil or lube, a can or rather something else? thanks 🙂 Daniel
  23. Hi there, the new bearing shells have just arrived: cr 625cp 010 from King (made in Israel). I checked them on a glas table for distortions: see attached. They look good! I am going to resume in the next few weeks. thanks 🙂
  24. Just ordered a new set of shells at https://www.chriswitor.com/. Thanks for the hint!
