  1. The club shop does do wiring harnesses, they are not in the catalogue at present though. As for the engine valances, they should be gloss black, I personally would advise against Hammerite as it is a very brittle paint and will chip easily. A good black enamel or coach paint would be better, or dare I say powder coating?

  2. I have 5 1/2 steel wheels and 175/70 x 13 tyres and they fit my Herald with no problems. However what you do have to be careful over is the offset as Clive has already said. True genuine Minilites are still made in the UK and have the correct offset. Minilite "replicas" come from the far east by the container load and not allways in the correct offset for our cars, it depends what is in a particular shipment. I know  from my time at a "large Triumph parts supplier" that there were instances of the inside face of Minilite replicas hitting the wishbones on the front fitment as the offset was wrong.

  3. This is a very timely post as I visited LEDA last Thursday and was treated to a tour of their manufacturing site, though small they are experts in their field and very much bespoke damper manufacturers. I first used them in the early eighties to get some uprated front struts for a 1300 Escort I had at the time as they were very much linked to Ford then as they were based down the road from Ford Dagenham.

The company was set up on what were copies of the old Armstrong damper units and have evolved and improved and each damper is tailor made for the application. The company is now based in Lincolnshire and manufacture small batches of dampers to original specifications or your own specification. While I was there I saw a pair of front struts for a 2500 Rally Car being assembled, all done by hand. The likes of Spax, GAZ, Koni, AVO etc use damper modules inside and they only come in steps, so the profile you need may be between one module and another so you have to compromise, with LEDA units they are made individually to suit your requirements, so no comprimise is required.

So needless to say if you want something special or you have a particular requirement that the commonly available offerings don't supply I sugest you try LEDA (Please note the club shop has no ties or affiliations to LEDA, this recomendation is just my own observations while I was there)

  4. Darren,

No but in the shop we sell the correct colour that has been matched to an original wheel. The part number is TP1GT6SILV and is the usual paint price of £9.95, £9.00 and £8.50 depending on quantity bought. It does need a clear lacquer as well. TP1CLEAR.

  5. Simon,

Other than carpets from a couple of suppliers nobody produces trim for the 2000 range unfortunately as the numbers are low it is not viable. Newtons would do seat covers if I supplied them with examples to copy but would want assurance of numbers that we would sell which of course we can't give. A viscious circle I am afraid. However as the prices begine to creep up the situation  should become slightly less bleak with luck.

  6. Paul,

I tend to use a combination of a screw driver and a pair of mole grips for the part of the rotation that you can't use the screw driver for due to it hitting the body work. I think when the cars were made the assembly line used something similar to plumbers mate on the threads and it is this that makes the eyebolts so stiff. Oh and a good dose of brute strength. :D

  7. The other way to check what you should have fitted is the lug size on the cap, 7 lb caps have 7/16" wide lugs and 13lb caps have 11/16" wide lugs, so if the radiator was designed for a 7lb cap you can't fit a 13lb cap, however you can put a 7 lb cap on a radiator designed for a 13lb cap.

If you look at the filler neck you can work out what should be fitted. :)

  8. The clear lacquers you can buy are most likely acrylic and will be Ok over the cellulose, "K would also be Ok and much harder wearing but is not available in a can as it is  2 part. The lacquer for water based paint is the same or as near as dam it the old 2 K clear lacquer, so it is only the colour coat that is more environmentally friendly compared to the old 2K colour and clear top coat.

  9. I have one that I got in 2005, I have fitted it to a 1500 Dolomite, then my GT6 and it now some 11 years later resides in my Herald, that along with an electric fuel pump means my Herald starts like a modern at the first turn of the key. I think Petes estimate of costs for a recon inertia starter are a little off the mark, try £75+ depending on where you try, this makes the club shop price for the Hi Torque ones a lot more attractive. :)

  10. As far as I have been made aware, there are no compatability issues with the aerosols of paint we supply from the shop. We can also supply red oxide aerosols and a etch/filler primer in aerosol form or as litres.

As far as contacting the shop, it is always best to use the clubshop@tssc.org.uk email address

  11. The standard fitment is 155 x 13 these will fit the standard 4.5 J rims. However if the 5.5 J Dunlop pattern Formula Ford steel rims are fitted then 175/70 x13 will fit and there will be no discernable difference in rolling radius and gearing.
