  1. Hi all,

After sorting my rear earths out (and let fuel run low), I have taken my Spitfire 1500 out and I am losing power when opening the throttle.

It seems when I accelerate hard it splutters and jerks. Now I initially suspected low fuel so I put 5 litres in but its the same.

Now I am thinking fuel system crud, needles blocked, plugs, carbs, etc but do not know where to start. I crept home after only half a mile of running it. Its fine idling but when blipping the throttle there is a stutter from carb(s) which then manifests to the stutter when driving. Trying to pull off a junction is a nightmare!

How some have ideas when best to start please. Meant to be going for MoT week tomorrow but now might not make it!

  2. Thanks all, I found a bad earth on the opposite side of problem (drive side brake light earth) and all works now. Blinky and Stoppies.

However time to move to a new forum as I have taken it out today and when accelerating I am experiencing spluttering - I think running it on low fuel might have cost me some dirt in something or other electrical / firing issues.

Thanks again though for all the help here!

  3. Pete/Doug/John,

Many thanks for replies and taking time to help and sorry for acknowledging that as have been away. I will check the earthing thanks.

It is a claw type with a pin at bottom so with take out claw holder and have a good look around. Not gone back to this yet.

On another topic are windscreen wipers notorisly slow on all models? Also have no windscreen washer. Just looking at things that MOT might pick up!!!!

    Thanks again...

  4. Hi all,

Help required warning. After a time away and it feeling like spring today I thought I would blow the cobwebs off the car and have a spin.

First turn left and I noticed indicator light on dash stayed on and it did not repeat. Got home and found front indicator stays on, rear does not indicate at all!

Rear bulb is intact and cleaned its contact however it still does not work. At one point I had the brake lights come on when I put the indicator on but that did not come back after a while of testing. I do not know much about wiring gremlins so has anyone experienced this before? Is there an issue with the repeater, an earth issue or a front bulb issue?

Hopefully someone has seen this before and its an easy fix or find! Any help much appreciated!

  5. Yes that's right. I did things all in reverse.

I narrowed my choice of cars down to four when looking so didn't join TSSC until purchasing the Spitfire. Bought car, got insurance (plus agreed valuation and breakdown cover) then joined TSSC and found they had a valuation process.

I will await the valuation from Lancaster and then decide if I need one via TSSC process.

    Cheers

  6. 1. There is a red wired spade connector and a black wired spade connector. Pulled them clock keeps going - assumption is backlight connectors?

    2. The main connector looks like a "pin barrel type" with earth to its centre and a live wire soldered by tag to its body. How do I isolate this without:

    a. destabilising the rest of the dash gauges (read somewhere about the 10v stabilising circuit somewhere - would it affect other gauges?)

    b. isolating this once pulled out - just tape it up?

    Clive

Thanks, but in essence there are 3 connectors (red wired, black wired then a comb with an earth and live attached to it).

Will insulating them up be fine with affecting other gauges?

    Cheers

  7. Darren,

I have already paid for Lancaster Insurance agreed valuation but going for TSSC as well as see where we come out.

I don't know now though whose would be acceptable, Lancaster (as their own) or TSSC in the event of a claim.

I will await Lancaster's and then go for TSSC post receiving Lancaster's back.

    Thanks

  8. Hello Shelley,

I did the opposite, bought a Spitfire 1500 after months of research and looking and drooling over magazines, papers and TV shows! I joined TSSC only Thursday.

I have seen a few about but I really struggled with anything in budget. In the end I bit the bullet and increased what I wanted to pay (and went over that!) but I definitely did the right thing and after 3 days and half a tank of fuel I am pleased I flexed the budget now.

Contact TSSC HQ and get them to agree the value of your car too.  Without Club input you only have a contract between you and the insurance broker, with the Club behind you you have a strong third party that will fight your corner if there is a need.

    Regards

    Mike

    Mike,

I assume I have to go through the TSSC form process and pay the £12. Just checking that this is a different route to the agreed valuation of £15 through Lancaster Insurance?

    Thanks

  10. "Even the clock has stopped"

Do you mean that you left the car unused over winter - with the clock running?

    Experience is never cheap.

    John

Having a look at this topic, I thought I also do not need the clock running but want to leave it in.

However (newbie alert), I thought a simple "pull the wires off and insulate them up" would suffice. However before doing that, anyone with experience with respect too:

Don't want to cut any cables as would like to make it easy to re-install if required in the future.

As always any contribution welcome please.

  11. Roger,

Thanks, just didn't want to sit on the fence or seem an over enthusiastic newbie at first so tested the water. I love the car. Took it gentle at first but I am already getting miles in and I have only had it 3 days!

Took it today for a spin in order to get Shell V-Power in it. I had engine overrun when shopping at the petrol station. Came home, didn't overrun?

Would you know if there is a TSSC Lincolnshire group?

    Thanks again,
