Would the heater be effected by a faulty thermostat as I have no temperature gauge either?

I have a 69 herald, noticed today that the temperature gauge isn't working . I know it was cold out today but normally temperature gauge moves off of the C, after about 10 minutes, however after about 30 minutes no movement. Would this be as simple as a faulty or broken thermostat?

I have a 69 13/60 herald and need help working out what would cause the heater to stop working? Heater blower switch works but no heat at all, not even when I switch to the screen blower. I know I have a seized heater valve that ids tuck in the on position but used to get heat out of it. All was working fine till today then nothing really need it working asap as its my everyday car. Appreciate any help possible, thanks
