  1. If its just for car body work then I would say get a cheap one. I got a 115mm sub £20 one 4 years ago and have used it a lot for big metal repairs and has been fine and still going strong.

If you wanting to cut stone then I would say get a more powerful one\bigger.

Also look at the design and size as some are bulky so you can't get them in small spaces. Also the guards can be awkward, I tend to just remove.

If you have to remove the guard your using the wrong tool !!

  2. Not sure if this will help! I have two old oil pumps one from a Mk1 6cyl and the other from a 1500 4cyl but not sure which is which??

With the inner rota installed in the body of the pump the protruding shaft is 120mm on one and 92mm on the other. From tip of shaft to top of pump body.

However the longer one has a female slot to engage with the drive and the shorter one has a male blade. So one assumes the drive gears must also be different.

  3. Hi looks a brave project. Have noticed the side rails on Vitesse's normally have a reinforcing box cap on the inside at the back for about 10 inches. Which I assume braces the chassis.

I know you have it painted but they would be easier to make up and fit now.

    All the best Ben

  4. make a lever 12" long with a 1/2" square hole in the end  and press the lever against the bathroom scales

60lbs at  1 Ft = 60 ft lbs   most wrenches can be adjusted ,

    Pete

I wouldn't trust the bathroom scales mine over read by loads :-)

  5. Just a theory!! ..... The main load is one point at the bottom of the rocker shaft but the load point on the rocker is moving and spread over a larger area.

You should be able to assess the rocker wear by sliding it along to another none worn part of the shaft.

  6. Don't raise the Engine to Much or you may find the Front rocker Cover Stud/Bolt, Rocker cover or even the Front Thermostat housing may catch the bonnet and make a nice dent?

    Not!  :o

That's why on a Vitesse the front rocker cover fixing should be a bolt not a stud and nut.

  7. Clive you could be right as the proper GT6/Vitesse workshop manual shows an actual photo of a rear brake set up and the

shoes have rectangular slots for the lever so the "H" plate would not fit in.

But if the shoes have the taper in the slot I think the "H" plate would improve the action.

Found the part listed in a Marina parts book as 37H 3075

  8. Where the operating lever for the handbrake acts against the shoe there should be a little "H" plate that sits in the hole in the shoe. This takes up quite a bit of the action which in effect would shorten the cable action.

Problem is this part is not shown in the manuals or spare parts catalogue and often goes missing when the shoes are exchanged.
