  1. The Carmine is a pretty good colour for the parts that wouldn't quite get done on a body-on respray...if you're sticking with red.

I'm sure there's quite a debate about using original colours but these modern paints really do zing. I'd like to think that if they were still being made, my colour would be one they might have on the chart. My wife would like it a slightly more raspberry colour...but that's not happening. Just because her name's on the V5 she thinks she has a say in these things ;)

  2. Thx Pete, I didn't know that, do they do cans?....I really really must join, you guys do a lot of good work and for the vfm I've had from this forum it's only fair to put my pound in the jar when it's passed round.

(I would now but i'm supposed to be working and I don't want swmbo catching me on here.......shhhh!)

Nautam, My tag says paint code 82...so i think it must have been Carmine Red. But I know fron the can I bought that it definately isn't that now. Does anyone want a can of Carmine Red with one squirt missing :)

.by the way what colour is your car...is it Carmine Red?

The colour has been a bit of a puzzle....another one.

I got some faded photos in the info pack that came with the car showing it being resprayed (when it seems to have had a yellow body, with a white bonnet and red floors??) in 2004. It mentions that the colour is "Argyle Red (met) Honda".  From my digging this seems to have been a colour Honda only used in 86 - 87.  Either the guy had a crate full of old paint he wanted to use, or the colour was used for longer than I think, or it isn't actually that colour.  I've no idea about it's history or what it started as, up behind the dash there's parts that look original that are green!

We quite like the colour but almost every panel and esp the fibreglass bonnet need some sort of attention and I can't find a paintshop that will take a sample and match it.

I should start another thread about it as the info pack contains TSSC membership stickers from 2003 to 2008, so perhaps someone here knows it.

I'd love to see if someone will please Photoshop it, him holding up the Punk with a Harrison 1/8" OIl gun.

It's the best I can do at this time of night. First one I've done actually so it took some head scratching.
(Trump-Kim summit just starting so I hope that's not how I spent my last hour  sorry if that breaks the no politics rule, it's a just gag, i hope)

    Oily Harry ?

  5. I'll give Owen the thumbs up too. The delay is annoying but to his credit they arrived on schedule to the day. Should have ordered headrest covers too but heyho. Make sure you order everything you might need, new trim makes what seemed OK look shabby. Mine aren't leather but the vinyl is nice and thick.

New foams are really comfy! It's like having trick suspension. :D

After recovering the clips that Badwolf mentions from my bin, I ended up not using them. Recline side is held in by the handle and other side was a tad short so I rivetted it.

I've kept the clips (which are on ify boards), they're no use to me and the price of a stamp to post, so they're a freebie if anyone needs some.

(ran out of carpet  because I decided to cover the rear panels and arches with it too)

  6. NM that red/yellow wire is actually orange. The photo has been affected by an unusual meteorological phenomenon which I believe people are calling 'sunshine'.

Yep Doug bring on those coil questions.... But I hope they're soon before I forget it all.

As a footnote to this rollercoaster of dispair and enlightenment.... I think I might swap the unballested coil I ordered for a ballasted one. If they have advantages it seems a bit silly to downgrade.

    Now hopefully.......

  7. By bridge it do you mean to effectively replace the KW wire #7 with regular wire. With no need to actually remove it because of electricity following the path of least resistance?

I'm making this simple job seem like bl**dy hard work aren't I?

  8. So I've not been getting enough bang for my buck?

So my wiring is ballasted? (sorry not knowing what that actually means is probably the reason I'm having a hard time with this) Ballasted wiring needs an unballested coil? Ballasted coils are for non ballasted cars? Or do the wiring and the coil need the same desegnation?

  9. Oh don't mention a bacon sarny Pete I'm starving.

OK... Points closed, one probe on the coil +ve and one on the disconnected connector =11.4v

Across +ve and -ve while both disconnected =3ohms

Wires as per photo pink/white and yellow/white go to +ve.

And the coil that Clive absolutely promised was exactly correct ;) on the way.

What do you reckon? I think it'll be a drop in job with no wiring mods?

Avoid lucas branded and intermotor coils....best out there are probably the bosch ones? 12v one below for non-ballasted ignition

Re cooling, does the fan stay on with the ignition off? that will help. And are the carbs heat shielded? Again pretty essential. Failing that, there may be a reason GT6 owners have a propensity for leaving their bonnets up...

Yes my fan stays on without the ignition. I've got it set at about 85.

I'm interested that you say I need a non ballasted coil. I thought I'd read elsewhere that having the extra pale pink wire to the - ve meant it was ballasted? That said my engine is a CP and the listings I saw for coils seemed to say that pre CR1 is non ballasted and post CR1 is ballasted.  I'm guessing it's not the engine that's the issue, more than the ignition system that was installed when certain engines were being installed?? I'll go measure the resistance across it and report back.

Carbs aren't heat shielded. Is there a part number I should be looking at?

  11. Thanks NM, I've got an electronic fuel pump so I'm safe on that count.

Good point Yorkshire, condenser was new when I got the car (12mths ago) but the coil does look a bit tired.

Doug, I only mentioned vapour lock because I'd heard of it. It's a case of a little knowledge being a misleading thing I suspect.

So, time for a fresh coil I think...any recommendations? Just regular driving around locally most of the time, I don't mind going better than budget but probably not worth spending silly money on a super dooper one.

AA man pulled GT6 front wheels onto the frame and off we went.

    This apparently is not good.

Couldn't the rear wheels be put on the dolly to avoid this? Or is that a stupidly nieve idea that would fail because of the caster and end in a horrific case of wobbly trolley wheel syndrome?

When you've finished laughing or shaking your head dispair maybe you can let me know.

  13. Cheers Doug. Interesting idea to use strimmer cord. I'm as convinced as I can be that I'm getting fuel and the tank is vented well. Temps seem to have been the problem. After an hour parked in the shade it was like there'd never been a problem.

Does make me wonder why it doesn't happen more often, the engine temp wasn't especially high, maybe 90ish according to the dial I use to set my electric fan cut in temp, and with the exhaust manifold so close to the inlet manifold which is also heated.

This issue is new to me. When it's running it seems good so I don't think it's something like the choke being stuck on or an especially rich mixture.

I searched the forum for vapour lock and also hot start and didn’t find anything which I thought was strange. If anyone can point me at some further reading either here or elsewhere that would be great. I don't want to worry every time the sun comes out because that's the only time I use her.

I was amazed at how quickly I got a reply. This place really is the 5th(?) emergency service. :)

  14. Guys. Been out for a short drive (10mls) left car for 30min now it won't start. It'll catch but only run for a few secs. Did run for about 30s and I got 50yds and it durd. Elecs seem fine. Is the answers to leave it an hour or call the AA  It's always started fine. It's a 2500 non pi.

    Help!
