Great ideas thanks guys.

Hi Guys,
My garage roof drips condensation on to my car in this sort of weather. Would it do any damage, namely rust, to use a car cover to keep my car dry and then remove it to allow ventilation when it is not cold?
Cheers,
Brett

Thanks guys, nice to get your advice.

Hi Guys,
Watching car shows such as Wheeler Dealers they use timing lights which display the number of degrees on a small led screen. Will they work with older type cars like ours?

T-Cut is worth a try, thanks for the idea.

Think I will rub it down and respray that area. Next time I will protect the area with a thick towel. Must make sure my wife is not watching!

Sounds a good idea Johny. Thanks.

Hi Guys,
Put some fuel in tank to test drive car and some got on to the bodywork next to the filler. It has reacted with the paint ruining the surface. The paint is from a Halfords rattle can. Is modern fuel incompatible with cellulose paint?

Thanks for all the info guys.
Got horns working now using 6RA relay with two separate 12v feeds.
Another job out of the way.

Thanks guys.

Hi Guys,
Cannot get the horn to work and think it might be the relay, 50+ years old and very rusty externally.
Horn relays are no longer available but I have a new 6RA relay going spare. Should this be wired up as per the std horn relay 1 power feed or should it be wired as per the O/D with 2 12v feeds?
Cheers,
Brett

Certainly could. Suspect it must have a resistor like a mk4 loom making the 4th white wire.

Hi Guys,
Checked the ignition switch and I have 4 white wires, 5 with the OD one, not 3 as per the mk3 wiring diagram.
Ran engine and when I turned it off at the switch the engine would not stop! Had to disconnect the earth at the battery.
Further investigation required I think!

Hi Guys,
Ran it again for 20 minutes. Oil does not seem to be getting any worse with sludge so hopefully just condensation.
Found a water leak from the water pump housing at the top. Will fit a new gasket to hopefully fix that. Will the gasket need gasket seal or can it be successfully fitted dry?
Cheers,
Brett

I used the standard bolts so hopefully that is not the cause. I will keep it in mind going forward, thanks for the heads up Pete.

Thanks guys that saved some money not having to buy a new head. Just need to fond the leak.

Hi Jonny,
Just checked the Rimmer catalogue and it says the mk3 and mk4 both use the 218142 casting, the 1500 is different though. Only difference appears to be the HG change you mentioned.

Hi Jonny,
I am certain that I read that the 1300 cylinder heads are interchangeable. Very expensive mistake if they are not. I will compare it to the face to a mk3 head I have and see if I can spot any differences.

Thanks Pete and Jonny for the replies.
Dynamo.
I will check the ignition switch.
Thanks again

Hi Pete,
Cannot see any tab at the rear of the CH. Took off rocker box and that is dry and clean. I will have to check if block is recessed do you know the engine number that started it? I have fitted a mk4 cylinder head for its larger inlet valves should I have used a mk4 HG? Finally which way up should the HG be fitted?
Cheers

Hi Guys,
When I switch on the ignition both the oil and ignition warning lights come on. When the engine is running both go out. When I switch off and remove the keys the ignition light comes on!
I fitted a new loom as part of the car rebuild.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Hi Guys,
When tuning experts discuss distributors they mention changing tbe bob weights and springs. I have never seen any advertised for sale. Anybody know who sells them?
Cheers,
Brett
