  1. Hi guys what size wheels do people recommend for a spit six I want to lower it as well so any recommendation on spring size and weights would be great, I will be going to koni shocks all round when I sell my kidneys to fund all this lol, regards wayne
  2. I got my milling machine and welder home today so ready to get cracking properly now. Rob it took a while to tidy the barn it was a right mess but needed a good area to do the whole project and not keep taking things back and forth to work, just painting will be done at work the rest i can now do here, regards wayne.
  3. Hi will, I have done the same all except the retirement part, after racing bikes for many years including IOM i have just had a knee replacement at 44 so took on a spitfire project to get stuck into, regards and welcome, from a new member.
  4. I got my area set out now, space made for the tub and chassis so work can really progress now, chassis looks in good nick, the front supports have been jacked on at some point with deformation but they will knock out and then plate off to strengthen back up, regards wayne
  5. Awesome week, picked up my engine, which had a nice alloy rocker cover, pi throttle bodies turned up so managed to remove all the tubing and butterflies now to bead blast back to new, lastly tonight I found a gt6 gearbox and overdrive unit so I will be full steam ahead fitting it all up with the jag mounts once fitted I can strip the chassis out for blasting and at this point I think i will galv dip and two pack white to match the body. Pictures to follow each process, things will start to look good, regards wayne
  6. This might sound a daft question but, when I find a vitesse/gt6 gearbox and overdrive do i just use the same vitesse/gt6 back plate to fit it all? I presume i need the same clutch and flywheel as well regards wayne
  7. Again thanks and much food for thought going in, I came across a picture with the e type jag mounts off the uprights and from the block this looks solid, I could make the full block mount at work with the press instead of buying the block mount and adding to it, might as well start from scratch, the e type mounts are cheap this then means I only need to fold up the plate for the uprights at the same time, looking at the spitfire mounts they won't hold up very well, regards wayne, ps keep any thoughts coming you all have.
  8. Thank's guys for the help, it's greatly received.
  9. really impressed with all the help everyone is offering, yes the engine is going back I found all pictures online and feel confident to do the alteration of bodywork. I had planned to use the engine front plate to mount like others have, I initially thought about using bike carbs but i found a few sites that guys fitted injection, I started looking into this to work out prices and found a set of inlets off a PI these I ended up buying really cheap, found a site which already had done this mod so there are lots of pictures and tips to convert, i will do away with the butterflies fit a rail then single throttle body off a stainless plenum I will fab up, the hard part for me will be the wiring as its not my strong point and boy does there look like a lot of wires. I believe my only option is vitesse or GT6 gearbox so I will be on the lookout, I missed a full engine and box in the courier, gutted. so things have a direction and everything is taking shape so lets see how we get on, regards wayne
  10. Ah ok I thought they were much the same,I need to start asking questions before I jump in,Regards wayne.
  11. the engine numbers would point to mk2 2000 not gt6 have I done wrong in my haste lol
  12. well I just found a mk2 2000 engine to fit along with the restoration so things will start to get interesting, The body is now off the chassis so I can start getting the rust off for panel replacements bulkhead alterations to fit the straight six into place, regards wayne
  13. oh well it's done now, mk2 2000 engine sourced along with inlet manifolds so now the full project is underway lol
  14. great story one to cherish, I will show my progress in the restoration thread, so it begins I will keep it all in there so it's easy to find, regards wayne
  15. Thanks Clive that's most helpful,I will look at the TRR and MGOT days, regards Wayne
  16. Thanks for your help, I plan to sit the engine back and cut the tub, I will be doing the whole car from beginning, so had already planned to up rate the suspension, vented discs and poly bushes although radius arms and drop linkages I will set up as rose joints for ease of adjustment. The car will be used in the summer and to do the odd track day and le man trips and really just for fun. sounds like the mk2 is the way to go then so thanks for your help, I will add my progress as I go thanks again, Wayne
  17. so after stripping my spitfire down for rebuild I started looking into putting the straight 6 engine into it, looking at the work involved in the tub that looks like the easy bit for me so turning my attention to an engine, whats the pros and cons of them, are parts hard to get for a particular engine, would it be best going for a later engine? any help greatly received, also what should I be looking at price wise for a complete engine and gearbox with overdrive, Regards wayne
  18. I have finally got the body from the chassis and drilled the door check strap pins and removed the doors, how are the straps fitted inside the a posts, can anyone tell me how to remove them please, regards Wayne.
