  1. Doubt I'll find that spring unless I use my magnet fishing magnet on the road around and under the car. Worth a try.
  2. I heard you could fit a 1500 spitfire engine into Heralds. That would be sweet. Has anyone ever put a more modern engine into a Herald?
  3. I found it on the road under the car. So while the engine was running with the rocker cover off it was able to slip off. Bloody hell.
  4. All I did was lift the rocker cover up and didn't see, feel or hear anything dropping. But it definitely could have done.
  5. He advertised it as a 1300 engine and told me it was a 1300. It doesn't matter if it's not a 1300 though. She's bloody nippy round the welsh lanes. Plenty of power.

  7. I bought the car from Mike Papworth from Coventry. I'm sure you guys know him. He's a gearbox chap. I haven't kept his phone number to grill him about the car though.
  8. I drove it for 16 months every day like that lol. And God knows how long it was like that before I owned it.
  9. The chart implies that GE to GK are solely for the 13/60 variant engines. There must have been 7 versions designed, spanning a few years of production. That's all I can think.

  11. Thanks for the chart. So, being a GF serial number I expect it is an early 13/60 engine. So were there 7 different iterations of the 13/60 engine then GE,GF,GG,GH,GI,GJ,GK?
  12. I was a paid member last year when I first bought my herald and forgot to renew. I'll make myself a member again but think I'm soon going to be skint lol.
  13. The car is very much a 'bitzer' with disc brakes, gt6 wheels and overdrive gear box.
  14. Here's my v5, if it's of interest. I'm puzzled now about whether it is INDEED a 1296 CC.

  18. Ok. I'm stressed now and confused. Can somebody take over and organise this repair and I'll throw money at them. I would rather my £1000 go to you than my local mechanic. I've got to find a cheap car so I can get to work. I'm a personal assistant to a man with cerebral palsy. My Herald is my only vehicle and was my daily driver. 😔
  19. So what exactly do I need to order? 1300 cylinder head? Camshaft rockers? Etc? What's the etc?
  20. And how do I know if I've ordered the right one?
  21. So if I order a 1300 short engine... Then what do I do? Who will fit it and what will they charge?
