  1. Just got home with it, what a blast! The oil temp was around 3/4 on the gauge and the engine was smoking when I got home? Is this normal for a car that hasn't been driven for a while? It was about an hour drive. https://photos.app.goo.gl/r154NwFue81skmBA7
  2. I was hoping to make the wife walk home and carry it but apparently that's wrong
  3. Well just one more sleep till I pick it up, then a (gentle) blast home, should take about an hour. Just so I can prepare, no special tools required to remove the hard top I assume?
  4. Thanks! I used the word cruising as it falls into my daily work vocabulary 😅 I basically meant what sort of speed is comfortable to sustain at those revs. In reality I will be like many of you and not go near a motorway, I have a (gasp) EV for that!
  5. Thanks. Could a a blessing in disguise and be a fun project 👍
  6. DanMi, thanks for pointing that out. The overdrive thing is definitely an oversight on my part, I didn't realise it was optional. I probably won't be on the motorway much anyway, though as an upgrade I think I'd enjoy adding it. What sort of cruising speed is normal without it?
  7. Thank you all. I've very excited to get it now and have a look to see if the soft top is there. This forum should be mandatory reading for new owners! Mine will be garaged too, but would like the soft top for backup just incase I get caught in some rain. Picking it up on Wednesday. Maybe I'll film the opening 😂
  8. Thanks for this, I still need to order a hood (after I've checked, I don't have the car yet) A few here have mentioned Don Hoods but their reviews online seem to be pretty poor. What about Prestige? Does anyone have an opinion on this sort of thing? Triumph Spitfire Wind Deflector - 1965-1980 | Cabrio Supply
  9. Wow thank you so much for all that information, it's very helpful. I've signed up to the club 👍
  10. I've been doing a bit of Googling and am not quite clear - how do I drive it? 😁 The oldest car I've driven was about 15 years old. Any advice on what fuel to put in it? I assume highest octane. Any tips on how to shift gears? I assume it's not like a modern manual. Still trying to figure out how to use a choke and what overdrive does!
  11. I've already posted another thread but I thought I'd say hello here. I'm in Surrey and have just purchased my first classic - 1966 Spitfire mk2. Really excited to pick it up and doing lots of reading. Thanks for the answers to the questions I've had so far - hopefully one day I get to the level of knowledge where I can return the favour!
  12. Great thank you, I started to suspect as such when the specialist sites who make them didn't offer them! I've sent a few enquiries round asking for lead times.
  13. Thanks! This is all very helpful Is this the sort of thing I'm looking for? Hood Cover - Mohair Non Zip Out Window - 807124MOHBLACK (rimmerbros.com) Also I can't seem to find one of these anywhere, are they not something needed for this model? Or are they just rare? Hood Stowage Bag - Spitfire Mk1 & Mk2 - 706831 | Rimmer Bros
  14. Oh there is a choice of materials and zip and non zip out windows. Have you unzipped the window much if you have one of these?
  15. Thanks, I found this youtube video - hopefully explains it well enough
  16. Thank you! I don't have it yet, only just bought (and paid!) for it at auction - very excited. https://www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1966-triumph-spitfire-4Xl064 Looking forward to getting it home and getting a soft top on and doing some of the chrome work. All a learning curve but seems like it will be lots of fun.
  17. Wow thank you this is all very helpful and informative! I'm a complete newbie. I hope it has the hooks, I've attached photos
  18. Hello, I've just picked up a MK2 that has the soft top frame but nothing attached to it. Any ideas on if it's possible to get the soft top without the frame? Or do they come together? Thanks
  19. Hello, I am trying to figure out how different the bodies of the MK1 and 2 are by using photos online. I'm struggling to figure it out and am not sure if it's there is a difference in proportions or design. Any places I could find out?
  20. Hi Paul, is this still for sale? I dropped you a message via Autotrader/text but not sure if you received it. Thanks
