  2. Hi Darren, That sounds like a possibility too. I do have a scissors jack and a fencepost ready for action, I was using it to help position the tub when re-fitting it to the chassis. I have attached a few pictures below of how things are now... Cheers, Keith

  6. Hi Richard, Many thanks for your replies. I had not thought about the cross bars altering the shape of the boot lid, I had assembled it off the car and just bolted the cross brace in 'where it landed' as it were. I will certainly have a look at that and get some photos at the same time. I was on gardening duties this weekend so stayed away from the car. A wee break away from it maybe wasn't a bad thing though Cheers, Keith
  7. Well I thought the re-assembly of my Vitesse would be the enjoyable part of the resto.... As the topic title says, I completed assembly of the bootlid last night, lifted it into position only to find that it is wider than the gap between the two 'horseshoe' chrome trims on the rear wings by about 3-4mm. Clearly something has altered during the weldathon on the rear tub. I've been running through all sorts of possibilities and theories during a restless night but wonder if anybody on here has any suggestions? Does removing any packers from the rear outrigger body mounts have any affect on the angle of the rear wings? Jack and a fencepost across the boot opening? Angle grinder. welder and re-spray?! I'll be keeping out of the garage for a day or two until I've had a think about how to proceed... just in case the big hammer comes out! Cheers, Keith
  8. Thanks Chaps, Tank persuaded into position and bolted in last night, the filler neck looks nicely centralised in the hole. Had a trial run with the old grommet (with lashings of lube Darren!) and, as expected, it split Pete, I am assuming from your comment that the new grommets suffer from the prevalent dodgy rubber syndrome? Looks like I have no alternative now unfortunately.. Cheers, Keith
  9. '69 Vitesse Mk 2 Convertible My Vitesse is slowly going back together and I was doing battle with the fuel tank last night. I can only seem to wrestle the tank into position with the filler neck grommet removed from the wing. My question is; can this be re-fitted once the tank is in position? I had a trial run and was not entirely convinced that it could however my original grommet is pretty shot and brittle. I am going to order up a replacement grommet but would like to know how others out there have fitted these. Cheers, Keith

    Converting saloon bulkhead
  15. Hi Folks, Does anyone know if there is a suitable finishing strip available for the seam above the windcsreen on a Vitesse convertible bulkhead? My strip is pretty rotten at the ends and I would prefer to replace it if possible. Otherwise the deaded filler may have to come into play Cheers, Keith
  16. Thanks Gary, I have seen photos of a few chassis on the 'web with the radius arms going to the middle of the rear outrigger. Mine are angled a lot further in. I'll have to do some more digging... Cheers, Keith

  20. The vertical links are now fitted, both sides looking and feeling good. The head-scratching has resumed though... The diagram in the workshop manual shows Vitesse radius arms as being straight, by that I mean the 'ends' are at right angles to the 'tube'. Mine are at an angle more like the GT6 drawing. Does anyone know if there was a changeover in the design at some point? I assume these must be correct for the car as they fit OK. More worrying is the complete lack of shims/spacers in the hub. The bearing pre-load seemed to be OK but I am now changing over to CV conversion driveshafts. How likely is it that no shims would have been required on both sides originally? I have found much bodgery elsewhere on this car so am a bit concerned that the bearings may not have been fitted correctly. Cheers, Keith
  21. Thanks Chris, Some suitable washers have been liberated from the work's store.... Cheers, Keith
  22. Thanks for the replies chaps, much appreciated! I'm just back in from the garage after having another look at the vertical links. They look more like Chris's second picture and certainly don't match the dimensions in my workshop manual. The manual says 82.092mm, mine are more like 75mm. Chris, Did you just add standard flat washers to take up the difference? Cheers, Keith
