I always prefer to work outside if its a single garage. Space is your friend. Its not too tricky a job, but is quite time consuming.

Have a feeling its just the tail extensions are shorter
Wheres the Bond Boys
Pete
busy mending them !

Its a Mk 2 herald chassis, the bonnet tube is modified ( ends lopped off ) and the rear extensions are different. I can look at mine and compare against an unused herald boot extension if you need. all side riggers are the same.

This is the simplest I can find and will be using it for my conversion with Crystal Halogen units in the next month
I will refer to the manual wiring diagram for the switch side wires
Aidan
so you leave the live feeds to the switch in place But add a live feed direct from the battery feed ?

would someone post a simplistic diagram of how to fit relays please.
-
check the ignition feed under the solonoid.

Do you have ignition lights ?

I have fitted a Double s exhaust manifold to my 1500. alls well except , theres a definate blow somewhere , sounds like its below at the front , but cant feel any blow. How do I find it ? any top tips for refitting it ? I used a new gasket and it all seemed to sit nicely ? I assume that I may need another gasket now ?
This 2 hour job has taken two weeks ! had to fit a new stainless cooling pipe, behind manifold. two adapters made up for the exhaust..... a new battery........ new exhaust clips........ and a small engine bay tidy up....... glad i have another triumph to use !
bought a new battery off ebay. Bargain ( (I Hope !) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252204716600?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

twenty five years ago I fitted a 1300 engine and a d type in my 1200. Never looked back. It runs on a standard diff so has great vavavoom.. Threeyears ago I bought a Bond GT4s with a tired Toledo engine. after a year I put a 1500 with J type in. The perfect combination, if a little lairy on corners.

Did you find out his secret ?

Quick update. The pipe under the manifold cracked when touched as its so rusty. Lucky find I have a spare engine so that's sorted. Separating the carb and exhaust manifold needed an angle grinder. Bolts then came out on the bench.cleaned the carb manifold up nicely. Must tackle the carbs too. The new manifold lines up well and tomorrow I hope to tighten it up. By then the new adapter pipe should be here. .

Having got fed up with changing failed gaskets, I have bitten the bullet and bought a Double S stainless manifold from a Chester supplier. Great Value and appears well made. Tonight I motored the Bond down to the recently mucked out lambing shed, lay some poly on the ground and jacked her up.. Who designed the manifold bolt positions !! So after some 1.5 hours , much swearing and wd 40 its all off. .
Now when I fitted the engine, I had a vitesse exhaust to couple to the 1500 manifold. This involved some careful cutting/splicing to a 1500 pipe and a pair of reducer couplers. Now I find that if I hadnt cut down the original, it would be a straight fit. 350mm male to female extender ordered....
tomorrow I hope to start refitting.

had a 50 mile round trip to The Oswestry Iron works, breakfast club car show. very pleasant. Everything from a Jowett jupiter to lambo .

update. This morn I connected the battery. Turned the ignition switch, NADA. Starter span on solonoid. No Headlights. I left the headlights switch on as this would tell me when i had found the fault. etc. . So ,first thought. When I fitted alternator I obviously modded the wiring at the control box . All good. Now , to the solonoid. Where the Brown feed attaches underneath , tweak it. Lights. The problem was a slightly dodgy connection. Not bad result all round.

Oh. And no fuse box ..... Yet.
-
But not always. Hope to check this weekend. Thank you.
-
oh. only electrical work done this year, new hi torque motor.
-
back to the plot. So yesterday. fresh battery . starts. Drive 20 miles. park up. drive 1 mile . park up. two hours later, nothing. Pop bonnet, spins on solonoid. No Headlights. courtesy light intermittent. clip jump leads on but before connected up try again. fires up..... drive home 20 miles no probs. park up. remove battery.
I suspect feed to ignition as the starter was ok but no lights ?
-
its a Moss supplied branded jobby. cant remember the name( double s?)
looks ok on first inspection. Need to measure the pipe sizeto see if an adapter is needed
-
so , how does the spitfire and herald gearbox differ? I always assumed they were the same...
-
hmm....... its a James Paddock one. Will report back.....
-
Haha. Its been great for most of the 30 yrs I have had it ! last week i took it out of three months hibernation. Started on the new high torque wonderfully. On friday we had a family weekend 60 miles away in Buxton. I will take my 1200. Nothing. Bond performed OK , but when I arrived home I ordered a tubular manifold as I am fed up with blowing 1500 exhaust gaskets.

It is fair to say that the forum is not the place to discuss any bad experiences due to the libel laws. Quillers helps many keep their cars on the road but would also say that many shop elsewhere ......
I have used quillers but usually try others first......
