Our old club the TCCV which some of us divorced 10 years ago when we started the TEG, had a Show n Shine on Sun 28th April at the Melb Stream and Traction Centre/Museum (an old Board of Works Tunneling Depot, large tunnels 10ft diameter, mini trains boring machines etc), plenty of sheds of working steam and gas engines, gas and steam elect generating plant etc with enthusiasts everywhere. Fortunately, the old crews at TEG and TCCV get on amicably, so they invited us along plus the TR brigade

    There were around 60 cars present, and 4 of us attended, Speedwell blue TR4 with Surrey Top, hot burnt orange 2000 Saloon and me in the daughters royal blue Mk2 Spitfire (didn't even get a wash)

    Here's a shot of two Harrington fastbacks from a previous event the Association of Motoring Clubs British and European show in Feb, a Triumph TR4 Dove and a Harrington Alpine back to back showing the different lines, which is the prettier and most practical? The AOMC is the umbrella club that all us smaller and marque specific clubs belong to & they look after our interests politically

    Ironically our Stu with the hot orange saloon won the post 63, 6-cylinder award good on the TCCV for being all encompassing of the Triumph family!

    Rogue Gallery is us 4 TEGger's who attended with me on the left, Stu next to me, he's had the car since he was 16, well over 30 years and built it up from a wreck with his dad, his brother having resprayed it twice now. The car runs triple SU's, corvette front brakes, Aussie Davies Craig electric water pump with controller (the separate elect fan and pump controllers do oscillate a little, the DC controller can control both a job to do!). The car develops around 170bhp. 

    Oh the punch line I did win something, Covid bug++r, I'm 5 days in and now the wife's got it!

I must have been lucky a friend and myself brought 2 fiberglass gearbox covers from the UK early 2000's neither of us had problems the top lip of the cover just slid in behind the heater distribution box, but the sealing flanges to the floors were terrible very uneven and twisted they had to e reprofiled.

    Re the filler access a 2.5in hole accurately aligned and using a 1/2in sq end magnetised socket ensures easy removal and fitting

  3. A young ladat the end of our court who got his licence last year has some BMW variant with turbo and big noisy exhaust he screams down the court all the time one day he’ll hit something 

    A good car now looks a mess with big splitters and wings, the latter don’t work until you get over 100kph 

    shouldn’tcomplain the short time as a family we lived in the UK early 60’s we had a manor house with along drive mum could only go to sleep when she heard me bombingdown the long drive and sliding to a stop in the gravel for court,

    A "2" prefix was for AMI assembled, and they also had a CKD plate see below interestingly the Comm No has no 2 prefix? Then again it  was a very early Herald Conv

  5. Here's another variation on my DIY for daughters Mk2 Spit to stop vapour lock, the standard extractors caused the problem.

    The manifold to carb studs were replaced with threaded bar going right thro the manifold flange and the heat shields mounted on the engine side of the flange

  6. Jdaley I see your in Bendigo do you know Andy Ansell used to run a local Triumph repair Co in Kangaroo Flats, he’s now retired. He may give tech advice on what and where to get the items and how to do

    I would say Aussie CKD 12/50 Coupe as it has chrome bumper covers, rego plate looks NSW colours, and rego transfer on windscreen, also a modern photo looking at the other cars in the photo. Also later variant as it has the ribbed roof panels behind the B pillar, I think they were assembled up to 65.

  8. A club member here had an early 60's Herald  Coupe (Aus CKD by AMI) and he had to slam the doors, at a "tweak it day" I fixed the anti burst wedges, realigned the doors and hey presto the door shut with min action, not quite Jag like, but close!

    The daughters Mk2 Spit has a closed circular section door rubber not the closed cell type, and that affects the door closure, I need to replace it with a small C section flap pinchweld, but there's only one supplier here and he only sells it in 50 mts rolls $+$+$, at a max the Spit and Vitesse would use 12mts!! I have thought about cutting longways along the bottom the closed circular type and trimming the flap length to create a small C section to see if that helps/works

    Herald/Vitesse door slamming can just be the wedge slider at the bottom of the A post door catch being seized a good clean and making sure it slides as you shut the door makes for finger push door closing. There again it could be more serious but the slider is an easy fix!! .

  10. Similarly I use the bonnet locks on both the Spit & Vitesse to stop the catch's opening whilst driving.

    Your bonnet catch's are in extremely good condition are the NOS, if so who was the supplier please

An side issue with pushing the gearstick all the time, for our sins my son had an Alfa 33 in his youth and we had to get the gearbox rebuilt by the local Alfa specialists, who advised it needed new selector forks which is not unusual on Alfa's as the Italian hot drivers always held the gearstick even when in gear pushing the brass selector forks into contact with the selector gear causing the fork to wear down very very thin!. Since then I have never held the gearstick after changing gear!

Can't remember where my dished washer came from I'm a hoarder for these sort of small things, when an electrical thing breaks down I strip it for all the sundry parts, bolts self tappers etc, drives the wife mad!! It looks similat to an arial outside finisher but I don't think there large enough.

  14. what about a small hole through the lever and roll pin protruding across and above the split ring 69, roll pin easily pushed out for future replacement of ball and springs, not personally tried so can't advise outcome.

    Re ball sitting too low I had one that pushed thro the remote I used a large thin semi spherical dished washer that fitted perfectly in the remote and it's still going strong years later.  

  15. Note the Spitfire Mk1 & 2 are gravity fed ie the tank outlet is at the bottom there is no pick up tube, all brass fittings from memory, I prefer positive suction to the pump rather than a sucker pump set up. It would get over your pick up pipe issue.

    The only issue with a drowned suction is if you remove the inlet pipe to the mech pump is the tank keeps draining!!

  16. Iain interesting following the thread, is it possible that can you list what was done by Hardy's to fix the problem from the diff carrier cups relocation to the spring? (transverse) being at the correct angle how was that changed, I know the transverse spring has FRONT stamped on it but I thought the consensus of opinion was that was only to sto confusion on the assembly line!
