mattspitfire
Hi, I have a very stubborn and annoying bolt that I need to get out and I have already tried applying heat and lots of force and lubrication. I was just wondering if anyone on here might have suggestions or another way of getting it out.
johny
oh thats the famous trunnion bolt isnt it? Rusts into the steel sleeve of the bearing so you cant knock it through (they do replacement stainless steel sleeves with polyurethane bushes now). Only one way to get it apart but its not nice - you have to saw down either side on the inside of the upright in the gap between it and the trunnion housing. Basically you saw through the seals (55) at each end, the sleeve (29) and the bolt which luckily is all pretty soft...
Colin Lindsay
Yes, sawing down either side with a thin blade will work; if cut with care there's nothing there you can seriously damage that you need to keep. Once you've got it detached from the vertical link you can burn or press it out.
