Reg
I've just bought a Triumph 1500 engine with a serial number DM35**ESS which I don't recognise . The main block also has cast in it STANPART 15L8. Anyone know if this really is a Spitfire 1500 engine ? Reg
JohnD
I bel that "SS" stands for "Spares Supplies", production out on one side to, er, supply spares. So you car might have had an engine failure, the dealer obtained and fitted a spare engine, possibly under guarantee. John
yorkshire_spam
That's odd, what's a DM engine prefix from? DH is 1300 dolomite I think. FM would be a Spitfire 1500?
Reg
Thanks John and Yorkshire spam, I've just found a complete list of Triumph engine numbers on line . The prefix DM applied to 1500cc Dolomites and if it had a ESS suffix it meant the engine was a factory reconditioned replacement probably under warranty. I can rest easy that my ebay purchase was ok ! Reg
