Captain
I'd like to fit some Minilite wheels to my Mk3 GT6. Can anyone tell me what size wheel I need to get. Also can anyone recommend a supplier and how much have people paid for them? Thanks Andy
Guest
Hello Andy. I'm fairly certain that the GT6 Mk3 & Vitesse Mk2 (my car) are similar / identical to wheel fitment. If that is the case you are best looking for 5x13 with a 165/70/13 tyre...............................I'm not saying that this is the ultimate set-up but it's certainly a very good start point. Other owners will probably have their own preferences. Have a look at R&R Alloys www.randr-alloys.co.uk they have a good selection and their wheels are supplied by JBW; although R&R sell them for less than JBW do. I'm thinking of buying some D1's via R&R. Hope that helps ?? Regards. Richard.
GFL
5.5J x 13 are also a popular size too, fitted with 175/70 x 13" Tyres gives a similar rolling radius to the original fitment 155 x 13" at the expense of slightly heavier steering though
Captain
Thanks for the info Richard and Gary. I'm not sure what all the numbers mean. Is it width and depth of tyre?
ian.osprey
175/70 x 13" 175 = width of tread in mm 70 = aspect ratio. The height of the tyre wall expressed as a percentage of the tread width. 13" = diameter of wheel
Guest
Andy. I hope the following is not too basic: Wheel example: 5.5" J x 13, this means that the wheel width measured from the INTERNAL beads is 5.5" wide and 13 means that the wheel is 13" diameter. The J refers to the wheel being suitable for car use. Other types of vehicles will have a different letters. With those wheel sizes you can then decide what tyre size you need so for example 165 / 70 / 13: 165 is the section width 70 is the aspect ratio, commonly known as profile - low profile are usually 50 and less 13 is the rim width which of course coincides with the diameter of the wheel. The width of the wheel determines how large a sectional tyre you can have. You would not be able to safely put a 195 tyre on a 5J wheel as it is too narrow, conversely you would not put a 135 section width tyre on a 6J tyre. It's all relevant and there are some good websites which actually show & explain different tyre size matching with wheels. Hope the above assists ?? Regards. Richard. Cookie
The Club Shop used to sell alloys but they aren't in the current catalogue so I assume they have been dropped from the range of products now. Midland Wheels usually do some pretty good deals on Alloys including packages that include tyres as well as nuts, centres etc. As well as the wheel size the PCD is also important, For a GT6 the PCD is 95.25mm. Captain
Thanks Ian and Richard for the excellent explanations of wheel / Tyre sizes. Thanks Cookie for the suggestion where to get alloys from. I'm going to look them up. Andy
juppy
Andy, We only dropped the genuine Minilites from the shop offerings because they were in financial trouble and got bought out by Specialist Car products, unfortuantely they changed all their trading terms with us which made it a non starter to carry on supplying them. The originals are still available from Minilite directly and they are the best. The other "copies" do not always have the correct offset for our cars and can foul the front wishbones. http://minilite.co.uk/products.htm

I thought the copies would be OK. They look good and at several hundred pound cheaper seemed like a good option. I may just have to bite the bullet and pay for the original and best. Shame about the price though!
