  1. An Original Rebuild kit on E-Bay although it is more than a new repro pump!

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-AC-BEDFORD-TK-TJ-CF-SUNBEAM-Alpine-FORD-TRIUMPH-TR5-TR6-GT6-FUEL-PUMP-KIT-/252484133534?hash=item3ac93a229e:g:Ts0AAMXQATlRZb2Q

I managed to pick up a N.O.S. Pump for my Vitesse many moons ago at an Autojumble, they still turn up occasionally?

Just be aware that some of the Repro pumps provide too high a pressure and you may find leaks at the carbs

  2. Hi Richard

Welcome to the forum, this is a copy and paste from the Canley Classics Website that should Help:-

Replacement wheel bearings should be re-shimmed to give the correct end float/preload. In most cases replacing the equivalent shims and spacers from the old unit will give an acceptable result but if the hub has been replaced or the unit assembled from parts, then the following procedure should be followed. Fit bearing cups into vertical link. Fit outer race and outer shell into vertical link. Fit hub making sure it is fully down. Fit inner race. Put spacer and shims in place - measure across bearing inner race with straight edge and feeler gauge such that the hub and shims are 0.001 - 0.002 higher than an inner bearing race. Fit outer axle shaft fully home and tighten nut to 90ft/lb. You should feel VERY slight play - if you can feel end float, reduce shims - if preload, increase shims. When correct, take apart, grease and fit inner seal.

One final word of warning, don't assume that every garage (even classic car specialists) is capable of rebuilding roto wheel bearings. We have seen some shocking bodges over the years carried out on customers stuff brought into us after recent work by 'professionals'.  You need to assertain that who ever  you trust your rotoflex with has a proven track record with the stuff, is regularly practised in the art, and has a ready stock of shims/spacers, etc before he attacks it.

    You have been warned!

The PI Trims definetly fit on the standard 4.5J Vitesse rims.

Have you got standard VItesse rims fitted still?

Here's a Picture of my old Vitesse fitted with the PI Trims.

I made up a Top hat shaped bracket that was held to the Wheel via two of the Wheel nuts, I then tapped a 2 BA Thread in the centre of this and used a 2 BA Stainless Dome headed screw to hold the Wheel trim on to the bracket through the centre hole that normally takes the leyland badge?

  4. To my Knowledge there are Actually 4 types of Rostyle trims as listed below:

    1. 2.5PI These are for 13" Diameter Wheels these originally had a Leyland Logo Badge in the middle, (Sometimes just a 5mm Diameter hole in the centre if replacements?)

    2. GT6 Mk2 & Vitesse MK2 ones again for 13" wheels no Hole in the centre and a slightly different offset and Fixing rim.

    3. Stag these are for 14" Wheels and again have the hole in the middle, but they have a bigger/elongated hole for the tyre valve, presumably for the 14" Rims? The Early Stag ones have the Satin Black painted sections but the later ones are finished in a Satin Siver/grey colour?

    4. TR5 & Early TR6 Trims these are for 15" Wheels, again no hole in the centre, but these are bigger diameter about 16.5".

You can get the PI Trims to fit the Vitesse and GT6 Rims but they are fit tight up to the Tyre/Rim and have an habit of flying off if cornering hard :o

I suspect you may have the stag trims, have they got a elongated Hole for the Tyre Valve?

You may find the Car a bit firmer at the back and also slightly higher, you won't know though till you fit it!!

If you stand the springs side by side in the normal fitted position is the new one higher in the middle?

Also are the Spring Eye Bolt Holes the same distance apart as this will affect the camber.

  6. I'm baffled, the closed length of the GAZ Dampers are identical to the Koni's I had on my Vitesse so this shouldn't be the problem.

Owen springs have a good reputation so this should have been manufactured to the original rate and dimensions but have you checked it against an original spring for eye to eye length when off the car?

On the original set up for the top damper fixing this was on the wheel arch so you would expect the damper to be a longer open and closed length.

Are you sure the car is bottoming out on the damper internal stop and not on the bump stop on the wheel arch?

This is a copy and paste from the Herald/Vitesse section of Club Triumph site from when I fitted Koni 80-1717 to the rear of my old Vitesse a few years ago?

I've been having E-Mail correspondance with the Koni UK Distributors regarding the correct Telescopic Dampers for the Rear of the Vitesse.

I was quering the Open & Closed lengths of the Koni 80-1389 Dampers which they specify for the rear of all models of Vitesse, against the recommended 80-1717 early Mini Dampers, see the reply below:-

    Hi Gary

Indeed we do list them for all models of the Herald & Vitesse 1962 to 1971, checking the 1981 catalogue its seems this has always been the case.

The damper specs are listed below.

Part No                 Max                       Min                        bump force        rebound force
    80-1389                316mm                 246mm                 910nm                  450nm
    80-1717                296mm                 218mm                 700nm                  200nm

These says to me that the forces on the Mini units are too soft to be used on the Vitesse, particularly the bump force which is less than half of what is required, it would make the back of the vehicle very soft.

A better option may be a Morgan damper. It is slightly stiffer in rebound, but the bump is the same.

Part No                 Max                       Min                        bump force        rebound force
    80-2885                296mm                 243mm                 1050nm                                450nm

I Never had any trouble with bottoming out even with 4 people in the car?

The only faf was the top bushes I had to buy some Separate Poly Bushes and shouldered bolts to get the top of the Dampers to fix to the Brackets?

If you Search on the Club Triumph Site for Koni 80-1717 you can see how I fitted them?

    Cheers

    Gary

  8. Looks like the bit under the Fuel Tank Drain Plug that holds the horrid Sponge seal in place?

Left it off on my Vitesse during its restoration and fitted a Rubber Grommet with a suitably sized hole in it, the Sponge seal as an habit of getting wet through and rotting the bottom of the tank :(

  9. Sounds Like I've been told some Duff info on the R6 Hose :o, Was told by a local Motor Factor R6 was Low Pressure rated but suitable for Modern Ethanol Fuel, with the R9 High Pressure type for Fuel Injection Use.

However R9 is stated as being suitable for 10% Etanol content (E10) which some Petrol stations sell now and it reads as if higher Ethanol content may well be introduced in the future :(?

I've done a Google search on R9 Hose and there is an Interesting write up on a VW Site about the Specification of Fuel Hoses and also a link to purchasing 5.6mm ID R9 rated Hose and Clips.

    http://www.volksbolts.com/FuelHose/index.htm

I'm not sure if this is the right Diameter for Triumphs though, 1/4" ID is the right size pipe I believe for the Vitesse, although the VW Site advises the Hose needs to be a tight fit onto the Metal pipes, so maybe 5.6mm ID maybe the right size for 1/4" Metal Pipe.

Interestingly I've been advised on another Website that Esso premium fuel doesn't contain any Ethanol, I've recently started using this in my Triumph.

Looks kike I need to change my Fuel Hoses again!!!
